in reply to: Hunting & Spirituality #46405Wise words from everyone. To go beyond using the natural world to survive is a progression necessary because man is gone from surviving to thriving. As our numbers as a species increase we know that we must be careful to preserve wild places. We are the only species who is self-aware so this gives me hope we can find a way. As hunters and gatherers we lived as a part of the natural world and were subject to its ways. Since most industrialized countries push nature back and replace it, instead of living as a part of it we are now responsible for nature. Hopefully preserving wild places will be seen as a necessary way of preserving ourselves. The old saying “Don’t mess with mother nature” is a truism. If we do not find a way nature will be very harsh and we will be hunter gatherers again but not by choice.
So I think when we feel that connection with nature it is a spiritual connection because we truly are connected to nature no matter how hard our society today tries to disconnect and overcome nature. It is nature’s way to remind us of this. So us few who do go out into the wild need to remind others how important it is to listen to this connection and honor and respect nature. JMHO

in reply to: She's finally gone… #44716When my youngest son was ten, eleven and twelve he came hunting with me. I think he was just trying to please Dad. He grew disinterested when he was 13 or 14, or maybe he finally could say no. I do wish my wife would get interested or my son again. I have hopes for my grand children from my older son who likes to hunt but has no time. The grand children are four under 7 years old and another on the way. I hope in the next few years I will have hunting buddies.
in reply to: Righthanded/ left eye dominate #44711First, thanks for your Service.
I am left eye dominant and right handed also. I shoot a left handed bow, shotgun, rifle and cue stick. I golf, play tennis, throw a ball and bat right handed. Been this way all of my life and it works for me. Good luck to your daughter in all her endeavors.

in reply to: Cultivating an Archer #64104Kudos to you, Joe. Hunting needs to be passed on and kept alive. We are all hunters deep down. My son is getting my grandchildren enthused about hunting. It is a great thing to keep are knowledge of hunting and woodsmanship alive in the younger generation.
in reply to: Just like a bad penny… #61669Hi, Patrick. Glad to hear from you. You always come up with some great new ideas on things to talk about. It’s funny how life sometimes gets in the way of our passions. (Or is it the other way around?) Anyhow glad you are back.
in reply to: atv riding #52956We need to preserve roadless areas or areas were only natural sounds can be heard. We need to preserve the natural sounds so we know how that is. Before gunpowder time was a long history of natural sounds. We have very few places and times to experience this. A lot of people have to have music in there ears or the TV on even to go to sleep. Some times I think people are afraid to just be with their thoughts. We are running away from ourselves when we do this.

Early arrows were all weight forward naturally tapering wood with stone points, cast bronze, forged steel.Pothunter is right early man figured all this out a long time ago. Dr. Ashby just confirmed the old ways were correct.
