Thanks. Yes, it is pignut. I used 2 light applications of dark brown Rit dye in alcohol. Then finished it up with several coats of tru oil, lightly buffed in between each coat.

Ahhh….so is see after reading a little more closely that there are free apps to be able to read ebooks on a pc, mac, smartphone, etc. Guess I’ll be getting it after all.

For the most part, I quit using them many years ago…..I simply don’t want to carry them or set em up, and they’re prone to spook birds. I say this with one exception: I used a single, roll up foam jake last year when taking my six year old son…..hoping it would take the gobbler’s eye off a squirming, excited kid. It worked that time, and he got a nice gobbler. Therein lies the only advantage for a bowhunter. If you’re going to use one, I’d keep it simple….forget all the heavy full bodied decoys…and most especially this remote controlled business.

It’s best to have cover behind and some in front, be still, and call softly for the most part. Forget all the carrying on they do on the teevee shows. The most important thing is to be somewhere that gobbler wants to go. Like real estate: location, location, location.:D

I do like that idea about tarring and feathering the chirrens, though…..:D

Great photos, Smith. Beautiful dog and country. I’m real close to talking myself into another pointing dog. Been a long time since I had one.

We don’t have the winter most of you gents have, but it still seems cold and gray all over the world at times. I’m enjoying it, chasing small game, working on projects, homebrewing, etc…..and looking forward on gobbling time.

I like that alot, Ben. Takes some real bowyer chops to make one of those!

I misspoke….I actually lightened it some from 30# after tillering it by doing some light belly scraping. She’s pulling about 25# and is doing fine with it.

Thanks, fellers. Dave, I have zero experience with it, but I bet osage would make a really nice holmegaard. I really like them, cool design….the history makes them even more appealing.

I’d like to scrape on a few more this winter, it’s a good time for wood projects. Etter, you’re up pal.:D

From what very little I know of Coues deer…..that is an exceptional buck. Cool pic.

I’m finna get real serious with the squirrels now that deer season is almost over. I do love them fried with gravy like Duncan said….especially with a side of grits. But I’ve had a real hankering lately for squirrel gumbo. Oh, mercy!:D

I’m sure some of the experienced osage bowyers will get here, but I’m in the same boat you are….we have none in my neck of the woods. I mostly work with hickory. If you google osage staves, several sellers come up, most of whom specialize in osage. I can’t attest to their quality, but they have alot on hand to choose from. Also, check ebay. I’ve been thinking about buying some from one of these guys just to get started with it.

I may have finally hit the jackpot over Christmas when we were at my wife’s family in the mtns. Good bit of osage up there, and I gained access to a property with lots of old osage hedgerows. A return trip is in order very soon. Woo!!:D
