in reply to: Just playing the waiting game now #52442
It’s hickory I cut three years ago. Last stave from the tree, and the best of the bunch.
in reply to: PTSD and the 4th of July #49242Dang, I miss all the fun.
in reply to: Let's see our Elk Country pics! #44978Great find. Few things get me more excited or reflective than finding pieces of the pre-1492 past. Especially when they’re associated with places we closely identify with; places we belong to. It’s a mighty special feeling to find an arrow point or a blade near where you yourself have taken or pursued game. My son and I found a nice hand blade and tiny triangle “bird” point last weekend in one of our small fields. Tools that may well have been used on the ancestors of the very deer I have killed in that place.
Sorry for the tangent, it just fascinates me. Let’s see some more of those elk country pics!
in reply to: Honesty and Ethics. #35635I woulda done the same. At least you have plenty of arrows now!

Yep
in reply to: Ed Wiseman video interview, last CO grizz #31307With regards to the wildfire, that is some incredible fire behavior. We are (were?) heading to Pagosa in mid-July to camp/fish along the Piedra, and then west to the Durango area, Mesa Verde, etc. Thanks for the link, I’ll be following along for the latest now. Hope those folks in South Fork and others stay safe and can save their town.

in reply to: Southeastern two-fletch #30158I built a rough spine tester (from two nails, string, and a gatorade bottle :D), but I can get a pretty good idea by the diameter of the cane and its flexibility in hand compared with cane arrows that I know shoot well. It seems pretty forgiving.
You have to heat straighten the cane, but once you get it straight it stays that way and is really tough as nails.
in reply to: Southeastern two-fletch #30068R2 that wicked little point of yours will do the job, I bet. Even if it does look like mine.:P You’re right though, in that function and a sharp edge is more important than pretty flake scars. As long as I can get a sharp and serviceable head, I’m happy. It takes me longer to make the arrow than the point, anyway.
What kind of wood is that?
in reply to: What ya got goin? #30051This is a great thread. lol:D
in reply to: Gillie Head and Shoulders Build Along #29927Very cool. The burlap material really makes it disappear. We want to see some Arnold-type Predator shots when you’re done.
in reply to: New Java Man on the block #27266Wow! She’s a looker, and a shooter too, I bet.
in reply to: Question for Clay, et al #26110Thanks, fellas.

I’m trying not to let myself get excited about it yet but every time I find myself daydreaming it’s about being in that river valley with my hands full of sticks and stones.
That sounds awesome. Take some photos!!
in reply to: What's your first hunt? #26095I’ll probably get after a few local hogs in August, but my first real hunt of the season will be the September bear camp Etter mentioned.
Incredibly envious of you fellows who will be elk hunting late Aug/Sep.
