in reply to: Rain suits #50194
Dave’
Carried Cabela’s MT050 and Rain Suede for several years but bulk and weight caused our parting.
I now use Cabela’s Space Rain gear in Colorado. Usually the showers quit soon enough that the Dryplus has not wet thru. I have been out long enough (all day downpour) here in Alabama where they did. Compact and light they stay in my fannypack or backpack. Bought the top large enough to even cover my pack. Had one pair of pants rip in ’04 but Cabela’s replaced them. They guarantee their products unconditionally!
in reply to: How Many Over 55 #5002557, 5’9″ 185# shootin a 60 # Morrison Longbow, 58# Tomahawk Longbow and on occasion my 60# Bighorn recurve. Shot a 70# Bighorn until my nephew talked me out of it last year!!!!!
in reply to: Mr Petersen hits one out of the park!!! #50018In books and articles, Mr. Peterson has expressed opinions (which I hold dear) in a manner to take note of. I have read nearly all his books and would recommend them to any and everyone with a passion for the hunt, critters and wild places. His endorcement is why I have joined Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and am saving $ for the Life Membership. I am a life member or RMEF, Trout Unlimited and NRA (though a “trad” bowhunter only for the past 28 yrs).
in reply to: Is it possible ? #50005I for one would be interested in the type hunt you describe. We have hunted archery drop camps and DIY. Hunt our pace and within our limits not not someone elses. For meals and a place to sleep (only) your $500 is CHEAP!! Most archers should be very happy with just an oppurtunity to see an elk much less a shot on one. TV shows are in high dollar locations!!!
Dave Peterson is right about insurance. I fell off the outfitter’s horse once and could see Law Suit in his eyes–he didn’t understand me then!
in reply to: Good arrows that won't break the bank? #63090For my $0.02 I shoot WOOD; FIR to be specific.
Arrows made by PatCarter–check his prices!http://www.backporchtradarchery.com
They are a work of art which I think shoots better.
If you do miss at least look good doing it!in reply to: difference in shooting a take down vs, one piece #50582Moose,
As Dave said try a few before you leap. I have shot Bighorn takedowns for years and the travel is much easier with them. I am currently shooting a ‘curve built on a longbow handle and really like the bow! Will have a takedown of that “style” soon. Would have bought a Saxon, Fox or Mahaska back in ’83 but only now is a bowquiver being made for them that I like–Alaska Bow Supply. I would suggest “On the Wild Edge” as Dave is living the life most wish we could convince our spouse of!! -
