Good luck in your pursuits,Justin….I still have to wait until the end of Sept. for our deer season to open, but I’m getting ready. Built the blind I keep up all season in my favorite spot. Happy hunting all! Wayne:)

in reply to: Your First Kill and Reaction #17027Shot a robin off my mother’s clothesline when I was six. Felt bad afterwards and gave the poor thing a proper burial.:cry:Never shooting another unless I’m in a survival situation. Wayne

in reply to: CA Removes Fish and Game President #10667That is really sick for the man to be removed from his position for that reason. That says a lot for California and the power of PETA in that state. I’d say,he has a case. Wayne
in reply to: Traditional Bowhunting Magazine #50288I find TBM to be special in that it talks about the things I love and care about; from preservation of wildlife habitat to the preservation of the most noblest of sports. It’s the enjoyment of the great stories of hunting and being able to live vicariously through them. I can’t say I’ve felt this strongly about any other publication. TBM is special….

in reply to: New T/D Recurve #24942Glad to hear you received the bow and had the chance to shoot it.(Been following the threads.)Those sure are a couple of beautiful bows that Troy built. Bravo,Mr. Breeding!!! Wayne 😉
in reply to: Colorado Burning #24925I was over reading about the last of the grizzlies in Colorado and looking at the pictures of the San Juan Wilderness and I got to thinking about all the game animals that have also perished in these wildfires…. There’s been loss of human lives and huge losses of property and forests that is hard to fathom. I have dreamed of visiting these places for years and am saddened by this course of events. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Colorado and those who put their lives on the line, fighting these fires. Wayne
in reply to: How many bows do you have? #63179I have 8 bows not counting the 5 kids bows that are fiberglass that I have for the younger kids to shoot.I have 1/4″ woodies to shoot out of them.
I have a early 50’s York long bow that doesn’t have a shelf to shoot off of.(50#) And then I have my dad’s red Bear Polar DR @ 38# from the early 50’s that are my two oldest bows. Also, a 50# Ben Pearson fiberglass Locksley long bow that I picked up at a yard sale this summer in pristine condition along with a few fletched woodies and the tab and arm guard.(in the box they bought it in)
My other bows are a 58# Bobby Lofton bamboo backed long bow that my son and I have killed several white tails with. A 63# Kolmutz Kustom long bow made by a bowyer from Cambridge,OH. My go to bow is a 52# Elk River hybrid long bow made by Keith Smith of Moundsville,WVa .
in reply to: Hunting Help!?!?!?!? #59880Alex, I suggest, and second our Webmother, Robin’s saying to read A Man Made of Elk by Dave Petersen, as it will show you the way you should approach the hunting of many animals, not just elk. Dave has had a lot of experience with ‘wapiti’ and other denizens of the wild.
My own suggestion is that you get as much practical time as you can in shooting and hunting before tackling elk. I haven’t hunted them either so I’d be new to that game. Although, I am able to skin and dress out big game and have taken deer and other animals with the bow. Get proficient and start hunting sometning! Wayne
in reply to: OK, you guys/gals have ruined me…. #42979Went to Cabella’s last week to see about spending some birthday money I had left over on some sort of sporting good item there. Decided to visit their archery range and test drive a Martin Savannah I’d seen there in 55# range. But much to my surprise they had discontinued this longbow.
I then shopped around the store to see if there was anything else to my liking, but really couldn’t find anything that caught my fancy. Needless to say,I left without buying anything….Yes, I too am spoiled by our choice of hunting. Should go through the 3Rivers’ catalogue again. I already bought a book by Dave and TJ with some of the money. Good investments!
