in reply to: Great Hunting Knife Sharpener That Really Works #8635Guys…I got one that I bought at a sporting show some 20 yrs. ago that’s a diamond sharpener and hone and I’ve never had anything but sharp knives come off of it. It’s got a full handle you can really it hold steady. I’ve used it on the Zwickey Eskimos I hunted with, but now I use a KME on my No Mercy’s and I can get them a bit sharper, as it gives a more precise edge. I paid around $12 for the diamond one back then and a few pesos more for the KME. I like my old one because it’s quick on knives for a touch-up.Wish I had the skills of Clay Hayes does in sharpening. Oh well…. Wayne
in reply to: Thoughts of Old #53077Ralph,that was what we all thought when we were kids; Robin Hood was quite the man, whether it was Errol Flynn or Richard Greene playing the role, the adventures in Sherwood Forest were filled with excitement. No less exciting were the times my brother and I played “Robin and his band of merry men”….. Ah,yes.
I think most traditional bowmen let their minds wander to days of olde,at times,R2 😉 Wayne

in reply to: Ohio making a big mistake, possibly… #43849Dave…Ohio did institute extra tags for doe a few years ago that were for early archery season, and you could buy up to three extra tags for our zone. And the beauty of it all was if you hadn’t filled the tags by gun season you could use them in the first week of gun hunting. But this year they didn’t allow their use in gun season. My guess is it didn’t make good revenue sense to let these $15 tags be used in gun season.:?:
Dick,it sounds like you are on the right track to recovering your form and accuracy with your bows. I agree, that you’re in a prime location, so take full advantage of your locale and enjoy your hunts. Welcome to TBM and feel free to ask questions as they come up, because there aren’t much better forums than this.

in reply to: Ohio making a big mistake, possibly… #43808Thanks for the input guys. I’m told this is not carved in stone yet, so there’s still time to change,or head off, this latest attempt to ruin bow hunting in prime time. There are already those in Ohio that see the disruption it could cause in our season and are calling for a halt to this.
Dave, I’m hoping we can rally several groups to show the ODNR that this plan would not only harm the archery season by causing deer to lay low earlier than usual, but that it could actually work to lessen the taking of antlerless deer. Not sure about an Oh.chapter of BHA yet.
Dave,I stand corrected,in that the elk herd in Co. needs to be thinned out also due to the loss of precious habitat.
Again, thanks for the input, one and all. Any help in this matter is welcomed.I’m sure there are other concerned bowhunters in Ohio and neighboring states.

in reply to: Off Season #53860I’ll be shooting a lot of 3-D’s and going after groundhogs this summer until deer season rolls around this fall. I’ll also be trying to get a turkey this spring, but usually end up getting one with the shotgun. I think going to shoots keeps your skills sharp for the most part.
If I were in Texas, like you, I’d be going after Javelina and wild hogs. Shoots are your best bet for staying sharp, in my opinion. Wayne 😉
in reply to: Cliff Zwickey Head #48361Well put,Dave.:wink:
