My least favorite predators are feral housecats. Where are the coyotes when we need ’em?What a conincidence! I was outside working in the gerden this morning and my neighbor up the road stopped by, he was looking for his cat. I know axactly who’s dinner table the cat went on, 😆 but I bit my toungue and just told him I’d keep an eye out for him. 😉
in reply to: Most Admired Predators #33667Hard to say.. I admire, respect and love them all. But I have to agree on the coyote. Cunning, adaptability, survivalists under great adversity. And he keeps on truckin’.
On another note, behind my home is all woodland and wetland.I was noticing late last fall a sharp drop in the rabbits I was seeing behind the house. I let the dog out one morning and she comes back with a whole rabbit in her mouth completely intact with the stomach almost inscissored open and all the insides missing. I had to chuckle… only a weasel kills like that.
in reply to: The "Process" of Shooting #25094Jason.. I like the way you explained that. I agree. I do the blind bale work very often usually every other practice session about 10 feet from the bale, do nothing but practice form – over and over. I like to think – be mindful of the mechanics but focus on making the shot.
What’s is interesting… and I like Patrick to chime in, if possible. I find usually after “tweaking” and doing something different I find myself, tweaking my way back to where I started in the first place!:lol:

I agree. Because the whole “primitive” argumant is Bogus. Anyone who thinks a Compound is a Bow drawn without mechanical assistance is disillusioned. 🙄 This horse got out of barn decades ago! 😉

I have a bad habit of constantly wanting to improve my shooting form, which is a bad thing. At some point, we should just accept the form we use, and just practice to improve upon that foundation. Always a work in progress.
Now that! Is the proverbial nail on the head! I am forever “tweaking” like an addiction. You are right Patrick…. no more tweaking!!!!!!!!! Tweaking means that no matter what “mantra” or routine we’ve recently adopted, every time you tweak, we change the whole game plan!
Tweakers Anomonus!!! I am sure we’re not alone!!!!:roll::lol:

in reply to: White Deer #19451I should have just posted the pic and left it at that. I am not looking for any debates about high fences or otherwise. Call it what it is – a Kill. Hire a professional Animal Control agency to come in with sharpshooters, selectively thin the herd and then donate the meat to the food pantries. Organizing a “hunt” inside an enclosed compound and allowing so-called “hunters” in the shoot them for a exorbatant fee, just gives all hunters a black eye.

Hi, Covert… I understand what you are saying. However, being a county secretary of federated sportsman’s club. I see what goes on in Council and in Albany, and you hit the proverbial nail on the head!. New York is like other states, a crosbow license is just a quick fix for badly needed funds. How about forcing government to fix the gross mis-management and waste instead!

in reply to: Bow Season vs. Crossbows #11749I have to agree with Chris. If it were just those that were physically challenged using the crossbow in the archery season, I would say fine. The problem is.. the majority of potential crossbow hunters are just gun hunters looking for an “easy in” into the Archery season. 👿 Heck most Compounders don’t even start practicing until a couple of weeks before the season begins. 🙄
If I am an Elitist. Ok – I can live with that. 8):D
in reply to: My Java Man Elkheart: The Four Year Wait Is Over #9276Hi, Patrick.. all the best with your new bows! Post pic’s! When you get them!
in reply to: Bow Season vs. Crossbows #9270As much as I do not want the crossbow in the archery season. I don’t think it matters much anymore, the whole technology issue was closed to debate when they let the Compound Bow into the Archery Season. That horse got out of the barn years ago!
in reply to: Ok Guys & Gals Fess Up! Let's hear them! #61806Patrick.. that reminds me of another time. I was hiking (more like bushwhacking) into a spot that was an Oak Hill surrounded by swamp. It’s the getting through the swamp that’s the tough part, so after 45 minutes I finally made it to solid dry ground. I took a quick look around just in case, and when I just finished relieving myself, this guy pops out from behind a tree! “How’s it going?” (this was my pre-Flomax days). hahaha.. 🙄 Anyway he says I was up there in the tree stand, says he was watching me come through the swamp. I was very embarrassed a apologetic. 😳 I thought I had just busted his hunt, and he says no worries, it’s not my stand anyway, ( was on was on my way out, just waiting to see if you’d push anything toward me. 😕 Then I didn’t feel so bad.
in reply to: Getting started again #58766Welcome, Hunter.. yeah me too! Been away for about a week! 😀
in reply to: Most Trouble Free Wood Shaft #55015Well… I received a dozen premium matched shafts from Hildebrand Sitka Spruce Shafts last week. All except two were perfectly straight, one needed just some minor straightening, the other I worked at a bit, but got it straightened too. I hand straighten. A couple coats of stain done, working on one coat of poly, will add another coat of poly, then crest, and a final coat of poly before I’m done. Will post pics when done.
