in reply to: Archery Geese and Ducks? #42490
Our club has a collection of old VCR tapes with Fred Bear and Glenn St. Charles, one tape I recall had Tom Jennings hosting a duck hunt with Traditional tackle. And yes, they took ducks!
in reply to: Painting Arrows. #40660Thanks Brett.. I’m painting wood actually. Appears the shafts were treated when I gior them though. But, they came out fine after a sanding and another coat.
in reply to: "Waiting to Kill" article in TBM #37971George I have to agree with you there. But, I’ve also read enough of Dave’s writings to know. The “act” is killing and we should not dismiss that part either. There are some fundamental interpretations here that mean different things to different people.
My mindset is.. I don’t go out and set to “Kill”. Because, kill is not only so abosolute and final it just has negative connotations. Bad Karma, Bad Vibes. But, nor do I harvest, even on the farm, I “harvest” corn but I “slaugther” the cow.
I go out hunting to “TAKE” an animal. Because, when the gods are smiling and the stars are aligned. It is a GIFT. For hunting hard, abiding by the rules of fair chase, and demonstrating through conscientious thought and actions respect for the animal and it’s environment.
So I have a different twist. But that’s nothing new! 😆
in reply to: Does this happen to you? Or am I the only one! #37768You mean about the Compound Arrow Launcher? 😀
in reply to: Does this happen to you? Or am I the only one! #37601Hi Patrick.. actually doing fairly well. I had the optometrist make the glasses as small as I could get away with for bi-focals (John Lennon style). And they seem to work well.
Fogging up in the heat is another matter – but most stores like Cabelas and Gander Mountain sell anti-fog spray for scopes that works just as well on glasses. In a pinch put on some Ivory bar soap on your lenses and then wipe them clear.. that will eliminate fogging too.
in reply to: Painting Arrows. #37597Hi Robin… Thanks!
in reply to: Does this happen to you? Or am I the only one! #37554Patrick… I wear glasses too. I solved that by opening my stance up a little bit. My only problem now is getting use to shooting with progressive lenses.
in reply to: Does this happen to you? Or am I the only one! #37490Ah Brett! Makes sense! Form and Accuracy are two different things and so is the practice.
Yeah.. what Pothunter said.. been doing this long enough to know better, and still stubborn enough to ignore it!
But, yes.. for me Howard showed up again… instead of Murphy! 😆
in reply to: Does this happen to you? Or am I the only one! #36825Mark, I wish you well! No. That is one thing I will not do. Like any atheletic sport you must listen to your body. If you body says stop I’ve had enough, than that’s it.
Hope you recovery quickly & well, and shooting soon again.

Bear Archery is heavily in the Crossbow market as well.I don’t think so… They started down that path several years ago, but decided not to produce crossbows. I am sure it was a business choice not a sportsman’s choice. But still, lets keep the facts straight… 🙂
Yes, they pulled the Crossbow Off the market due to product liability issues and a faulty safety mechanicism. When the U.S. Government makes you pull your entire product line. That’s tough to recover from. 🙄 There were FIVE Bear Archery Crossbows marketed from 2004 to 2006 – all of them recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Looks like they were in a rush to get in on the market!:roll:
in reply to: Most Admired Predators #35558I think one of the coolest animals I’ve been lucky enough to spot while bowhunting is the Bobcat. This is an animal we usually only get a parting glimpse of. Or hear thier screams on the ridgetops at night. Several years ago one afternoon I was hunting a local horse farm in the back fields and from my stand I had the opportunity to watch a bobcat “mousing” the entire field edge for about 20 minutes. That was neat!
in reply to: Painting Arrows. #35277Well after sanding, a 2nd coat went on fine. I imagine a primer or an initial wipe down with 0000 steel wool and a little acetone, probably would have done the trick too,
in reply to: Bow Season vs. Crossbows #34818No one could have said it better, Dave.
Now… I’ll probably be tarred and feathered for this but, I do have to think about this…….. To my knowledge it was said that Fred Bear stated he regretted marketing the Compound bow. Honestly, yeah right.. he cried all the way to bank over it! I’m sure! Now today.. Bear Archery is heavily in the Crossbow market as well. I wonder if Fred was still owner and CEO of Bear Archery today, if they would be marketing Crossbows. Famous Archer – yes. Famous Bowhunter – yes. Famous Businessman – YES.
Bear Archery marketed the Compound specifically to the Gun Hunter. “Become a Two Season Hunter” campaign.
in reply to: My Java Man Elkheart: The Four Year Wait Is Over #34205Very Nice! All the best with them Patrick!
in reply to: Most Admired Predators #33877You’re Hilarious, Patrick! 😛
No our local Canis Latrans have an acquired taste for housecats. Which is fine by me. 🙂
