in reply to: ARE LONG SHOTS PUZZLING TO ALL?? #27757
I like what John Carter wrote. Me.. I use components of all three methods: Instinctive, Gap and Point On. I find in practice walk up / walk down different ranges for individual arrows helps a great deal, as does stump shooting which is more realistic. If you can find any Field Archery Shoots in your area, this can help a great deal in getting use to long distance shooting.
For the record.. my hunting shots are never more than 30 yards.
Real basic.. if your form and accuracy are good, I have a mental note that I have kept from another website: “If the mind is astray, so will be your arrows”.
in reply to: Should Traditional bowhunting be more mainstream? #27741If it were masinstream we’d have all those Forrest Gump types on the Outhouse Channel giving us a black eye. 😯 No thanks. I am happy where we are. 8)
in reply to: I picked a team today… #27736Enjoy the journey, Brother! 8)

The last few years I have urinated in scrapes then hung a cam…results are eye opening to say the least. Ive done the same with commercial doe p and in heat p…bucks disappeared. My p, they fight for a chabnce to add their own, along with every squirrel, rabbit, yote, fox and coon that comes by.
TD… I did the same thing! I made a couple of Mock Scrapes and pee’ed in them myself. They are both still active, and I have had bucks and does coming to them!
Old Indian trick – stand in the mock scrape, rub your knees together and let it run down your leg.:P:lol:
Only kidding! But yes, it really works!
Lastly, I couldn’t sleep at night BUYING PEE for 30 – 40 – ridiculous 50 dollars when so many people go without in this country and world.
in reply to: Bearspaw/WesWallace #26252We are fortunate today to have so many quality bowyers out there today. It would be hard to go wrong with any of them. Bottom line is.. it is really all about personal preferences. 8)
in reply to: Waterproofing feathers?? #26195I use to use ScotchGuard, but over time it makes the feathers a tad stiffer. Anymore I just cover my arrows with a fleece cover when it rains….

Just kidding. We love you here! 😆
ttfThat’s okay, Duncan. A little smackdown now and then keeps things alive! 😆
I think Elkheart’s influenece is rubbing off on him!:P
in reply to: Bearspaw/WesWallace #25376Kelly, for as many that respond. You will likely get as many answers. It really boils down to one thing – What do you like most.
in reply to: Hardwood Arrows #13320Not Hardwood but ditto in Laminated Birch Shafts from Allegheny Mountain Arrow Woods.
Comment on “forgiving” wood shafts. There are plenty of IBO Shooters shooting wood shafts.
in reply to: Just Me and the Squirrels…. #13313“Who was that Masked Man?!” :lol:8)
Good hunting, Duncan!
in reply to: Dry Fired bow #13250Treetopflier wrote: What Chad says. The man absolutely knows his stuff … except that you should never let anyone else shoot any bow you intend to keep and use! I equate it to “loaning out your wife” but perhaps that’s too extreme. 😉
Yup.. I concur on all counts as well.
in reply to: Arrow confused #10717I’ve read the Dr. Ashby studies. As a financial analyst I know miracles can be worked with numbers! As they say, statistics don’t lie but you can lie with numbers.
NOT TO TAKE AWAY FROM DR. ASHBY. His studies are very controlled and very informational. Extremely useful. But, I am the same way.
Give me a shaft with the correct spine, decent fletch and a heavy broadhead and I will tune it and be happy. Proof sometimes ignorance is Bliss.:D
in reply to: Halloween Buck #10706Wow! Congratulations! What a nice buck!
in reply to: allegheny mountain bows #64012I don’t owm one, but I have shot one. They are an excellent bow. And the folks at Alleghany are top notch. You will not go wrong.
in reply to: Small Game Heads #63493Ace Hex Heads.. they do a number on cottontails and squirrels.
If you’re thinking pheasants I would use the old Hills Hornets or Bodkins and make sure you use Flu Flu fletching. They are on the light side so you’d probably need to add woody weights or additional weight to the head.
