I do believe it is prefrence. From what I understand, it was just kinda of an unspoken rule that if you were a right handed shooter you had to shoot left helical. Reason being that there was a misconception that your shaft would hit your riser otherwise. There is a video on youtube that has myth busted this belief. It proves that an arrow does not start its helical spin till it is past the riser. I started left and have since changed to right helical jigs. I like the idea of the shaft spinnig tighter on the broadhead threads than opposing them. Then I learned that loose BH’s can be remedied by simply applying Teflon tape on the threads prior to screwing them in. It works great for me. Left Or Right I think they are both great. Especially if you have confidence in your set up… 8)

do find the bananas to be a bit noisy? Ive shot bananas and they make this Whizzing sound. My AA fletching are silent

It is spritual to me. I will walk a bit prouder with a quiver full of woodys. Durability? Well that means I’ll have to make more and fletch more. How sexy is that. I am a saltwater fly tier and I surely enjoy equal time behind a Jig and especially a crester. This is the beauty of our sport. I do like my Carbons but woods are special

I love my Tomahawk. It is fast smooth and quiet. Some dont like the the riser but I do. I know some shooters prefer the pistol grip riser. I like mine well. As for my Daughters bow. Her recurve was a gift from a memeber of this forum. You just might guess who it was.. He makes one sweet bow and smoking fast. I had preordered her longbow way in advance of receiving this wonderful gift from my buddy. It was a Xmas gift for my daughter. Maaannnnn you should have seen her eyes light up when he whispered in her ear. Merry Christmas… Brother if your reading this… You really made a girls dream come true…

my little ladys shoots a custome recurve with wood arrows and my wife still has training wheels. Me and my daughter are trying to convert her. I have to add that I had ordered a bow which is perfet for my 11 yr. daughter and we visited the shop in Weatherford to see her bow in the final stages. a (Phoenix Lite) made by dryad bows…35#26. Holy Smokes!!!!!!it is smoking fast. She fell in love with it as well as I. It just needed to get a few final coats. I love it, She loves it………………………..

Next, I looked at places I can drive to. This will just make life much easier in the off chance that I actually get an animal. I would hate to have an elk 10 yards from me and wind up passing because I cannot fit several hundred pound of meat in my carry-on. 😀

Good point. WTH will I do after a kill if I am so lucky.

First off I apologize for not responding sooner. Ive been working Mids and havent really figured out what day it is yet. WOW!! There is alot of preparation to be done. I was and am still considering New Mexico. The only reason I want to shy away from that is due to the diffiulty in attaining a tag. Utah, Colorado? My Lord that would be awesome. I can get the training done and still know it would not be sufficient. Im no stranger to altitude and rough terrain but i know it will kick my butt. Im so looking forward to it. Im sure the experience is like no other. By the looks of it, (10 days minimum) and food, should I just take MRE’s? Gear? I will take all advice and learn from the experience here. I might even contact one of you guys for help aswell. I cannot thankyou enough for the help. I plan on hunting with a friend and it looks like I should start preparing as of now. It looks like its gonna be pricey. I’ll save my money for awhile and live a little. Gods Speed to all.

By the way, I’m leaving this evening headed to Weatherford, Tx. with the family for a little Whitetail and Hog hunt. I am blessed to have good friends that will take me and my family in for 4 days of good hunting. We are all taking our bows and the weather will be perfect. It just looks like there gonna be a full moon out…..

I appreiate the video. Your method really works. What I’d like to see is a how to video on how to maintain the tanto tips. Ive tried and tried and always round off the tips eachtime I attempt to sharpen. Do you have any tips on this or would it be to much to ask, to make a video inluding the sharpening tecniques you use while sharpening the tips

I’m thinking I’ll just keep the wind to my face to avoid my prey from smelling me. Now as far as peeing in a scrape. I had a friend that had told me about doing this and so I tried it. After 4 or so hours of being on my knees behind some cover and right at sundown. He came in to his tree where he had rubbed and I could tell he didnt like the idea of me peeing by his tree. He didnt run, he just sniffed and sniffed trying to figure out who had been there. Long story short…………..I drew slowly and let her fly——————My arrow hit the only 1/2 branch within 40 sqr. feet between be and this buck.

I’m loving it!!! I’m already into the season and a little late for me to change my daughters setup. She is shooting confidently right now and I dont want to change a thing. She’s shooting some nice 26″ POC with a 130grns Zwicky….

Munster, you’re doing some nice work there

David Petersen wrote: The lighter the shaft and heavier the head, the higher the FOC and the better penetration. Your total weight is fine; anything above 650.

I agree 100%. I was just about to order and then I did the math. These new hunters would give me a total weight of 620 grns. Soooooo that means i will not be using them. Id like to buy the carbon expres heritage but they are 12 grns per in. in the 350’s (.320) spine. that would lower my FOC… a big no no.

So what I’m asking now is suggestions on a strong arrow light enough to push my 360grns up front from my 52 lbs of draw weight. I was using Beman Camo Hunters (340’s) cut to 30″

                              (.340) spine deflection
