in reply to: Bowfishing for birds?! #63435
wood/metal arrows drill a small hole
carbon use a Pin nock bushing and drill it and have it stick out just a hair
my thing is how would it affect the arrow flight [small drag on the tail end of the arrow? fishing arrows are real heavy but bird arrows not so much
I am thinking of putting foam inside my carbons for they will float [for ducks]
in reply to: Who's Hunting the Late Season? #60335I am just got done hunting the last bull moose bow only season for this year -15 to -25 for 4 days spent 2 days across the river for the cow hunt 20 miles by Snowmachine to the legal hunt area [gun or bow] saw over 6 cows and 2 bulls before the hunt area then 2 bulls in the hunt area and a pack of 10 black wolves made i short stalk on them in to the thick timber and went back to the trail 10 to 1 not good odds but it was still awesome to see that many wolves and all black i have never seen that before some times 1 or 2 but not 10 these were the only wolves i ever tryed to shoot only be cause i had my bow i have had my crosshairs on wolves before but never pulled the trigger
I still have some more time to get a cow moose i could use a gun but i am not going too i will get it with my bow or not at all i have shot many moose with my rifle
As for shooting 70 pounds in -25 its not that bad its just the cold weather gear gets in the way harder to move your arm and keeping it out the way of the string and rubber arrow grippers turns rock hard
it doesnt help that this is the coldest november for fairbanks on record it was -42 last week well good luck i will be out this weekend trying for a cow
in reply to: Are we forgetting our roots? #60179I collect old broadheads and other stuff
one of my most prized items is 3 Ben Pearson deadheads still in the box
thats a shame that you had to sell those items to someone who doesnt care about them for what they are
alot of shooters dont know the roots of this sport only the latest greatest fastest stuff on the market
not that i know everything about our roots
but i know theres still die hard collectors out there
in reply to: Good arrows that won't break the bank? #55613I use gold tip 7595 Expedition Hunters they are very tough arrows and their $40 for a 6 pack
in reply to: trad bow for tall guys? #48194newbreedarcher wrote: sounds good! now, this may be a little off topic, I was told by a local traditional archer, that eastern bows or “horse bows” are able to draw to great lengths without stacking. He said they are very accurate and have no hand shock. Just curious if anyone has used them or known anyone that has that could verify this. thanks a lot everyone!:D
i have a horn hunter [horsebows.com] horse bow smooth no hand shock at all and super quiet
accurate yes you shoot off your hand you theres more room for you to mess up
now some of the horse bows dont stack but this one does 70@28 82@30 97@32 but it was made for a 28in draw
but Kassai has bows that are longer and dont stack intill 32 mine was made for me i am only 5 9
i have had it for 12 years now and it just started to lose poundage 64 at 28 not 70 a few weeks back so i ordered a custom bama bow Elite Classic $500 total
i hope this helps you
in reply to: Scouting for Aoudad #42172Your welcome for Me theres nothing like bowhunting it just feels 100% different then rifle hunting I have shot 4 moose with a gun and not once did I have to wait or stalk it I just shot it bow hunting you cant just see and shoot you have to stalk and crawl within range of your prey My dream shot is 5 yards on a moose i cant think of a more Primal kill other than thrusting a spear into him but i am not that crazy or just knives on hogs that i would do if i had the chance
but any way Primal is the best way to describe the feeling i get when I BowHuntin reply to: Scouting for Aoudad #40976Bowhunting sheep and goats feels Primal climbing over rocks but thats just me all the bowhunting i have ever done has always felt a little bit Primal thats why i love it I hope you get one

in reply to: ebay selfbows? #24689Thanks thats kind of what I was thinking you get what you pay for!
in reply to: Mechanical Broadheads #23792I use magnus stinger buzzcuts 2 blade and i buy the replacement blades to swap in when its time to go hunting those spare blades are so sharp i can shave arm hair right out of the box
As for how tough they are i tested a 2 blade 125grain in 3 ways [70lb bow 670 grain arrow 25%foc] i shot them at 12 yards [thats where i get the most penetration] in to soild concrete bounced off and then 1/2 plywood had to unscrew it and pull the shaft out and then shot a shed mosse antler 1 inch of soild bone and it stoped on the ferrule and then i couldnt get the blade out of the antler so i unscrewed the ferrule from the blade and put a new blade on with the same screw and it shot fine at 25 yards
That test only costed me $4 but i had to know what it could survive some may call this test a waste but i have to know my gear isnt going to fail
in reply to: Whats you FOC? #2028329in goldtip 7595 Expedition Hunter 125gr point 11gr inserts and 250gr weight screws and 3 4in custom bananas = 670gr and 25% FOC and they fly great and hit hard from a 70lb horn hunter horse bow
