in reply to: BHA expands again #15234
Welcome back, Alex. Good to hear from you again!
in reply to: Entry level takedown #15033While I’ve never owned a Sage, it sounds like you can’t go wrong with them for the money, by all accounts.
You might also want to check out the used bow inventory at RMSP. Sometimes there are some gems on there within the price range you mention:
in reply to: Anything Positive @ This Winter? #14525Got up into the mid-40’s here today. Time to get the Thunderchild outside.
in reply to: Anything Positive @ This Winter? #14524Thanks, Mike. The MG’s re what I’m leaning toward – either the modified bear paws or the rabbit hunters.
And wait – you’re breaking trail in front of the huskys?!? They sure have you trained well!
in reply to: Anything Positive @ This Winter? #13949I’ve reached a momentous, potentiall life-altering decision: I am getting rid of the several pairs of “modern” snowshoes that we own. It suddenly occurred to me that I can’t stand the things. Infernal contraptions that are way too noisy, and a classic case of trying to complicate something that doesn’t need to be in the name of hip merchandising.
So to “the Bay” they go, and I’m in the market for a pair of trad shoes. Probably Iverson’s or Maine Guides…
Whew. I feel better.

Leave it to you guys to notice these things… 😀
in reply to: pictures of animals #13365Here’s a pic I took while floating the Teton River a while back. Moose crossed just upstream from us, walked down along the bank, and then crossed back over just below us.

Now that’s love, eh Mike? 😀
in reply to: Thunderchild! #12289Duncan – A friend of mine put his money down last fall, and he just got the call from Big Jim last week, so I bet yours is up very soon. Looking forward to seeing it.
Bernie – Yup, a short riser and carbon cores make for a snappy, quick bow that draws like butter! Jim really has this design figured out.
in reply to: Thunderchild! #12150Btw, another friend of mine received a 54″ takedown TC today, a real beauty in koa wood with horn tips and overlays. His draw length is a little longer than mine (29″) and he says he doesn’t notice any stack at all with it.
in reply to: Thunderchild! #12149Ben & Bernie – ask and you shall receive, though I had to take the pic in my buddy’s cluttered basement since it’s nuking outside today, so it ain’t the best pic. T-child, at full draw:
Put about 80-100 arrows through it today, and it is one heckuva smooth, accurate bow.
in reply to: Book Rec for black bear hunters/lovers #12120Thanks for the “Out on a Limb” rec – I’ll check it out.
I would definitely love to hear more recommendations, from this particular crowd, about good books on bear natural history. Too many books on the subject that I’ve come across don’t do much for me, one way or another.
“Grizzly Years” is a classic, from a guy who has really spent a lot of time among them, and speaks from extensive personal experience.
in reply to: Winter Pics #11760Just spent the last hour digging our rigs out of the driveway. And with the way this storm is cranking, it’ll probably be all blown in again in a few hours.
My backyard archery range is buried.
A good reminder to be careful what I ask for…
