in reply to: Dream Hunts #8629Both of you jokers should come join us in AZ this January!
in reply to: What ya got goin? #7979Aw, c’mon, Ralph – we know that hoodie is hanging in your closet right now…
in reply to: Need Encouragement #7915Brother, we all go through this at various stages on the journey. You’ve gotten some great advice already, and in the end, I think all you can do is stick with it and keep it fun.
The usual cause of my shooting game falling apart isn’t my gear, it’s me, and it’s usually because I’m overthinking it and/or my head is somewhere else rather than in that beautiful Zen state of thinking/not-thinking when it all just flows. At these times, the best thing I’ve found is to grab a fistful of stumping arrows, go for a hike and just remember the joy of flinging arrows, and get that troublesome thing between my ears out of the way for a while.

Plus, as soon as GA finishes this game I’m headed out to the Panic Concert.
I suppose that’s a valid excuse.
Btw, our good friends (serious Panic-heads) just had a daughter, and named her ‘Greta.”
“…Greta’s got a gun
This ain’t no flowerchild…”
in reply to: Bows; lengths, curves and handles… #7732And since I had them all out and strung up, I went ahead and shot them all. It’s been a long time since I’ve shot a recurve! 😉
in reply to: Bows; lengths, curves and handles… #7719I’ll play. From my straightest bow to my curviest:
in reply to: Happy birthday old man Alex B! #63269Right on, brother – tear it up! The best years are still to come!!
in reply to: Dream Hunts #63151That’s good to hear, Robin. Someday I’d really like to do this.

Is that your quiver from Big Jim? I think I’m remembering correctly.
It is. Love it for stumping and small game. And I bet I’ll be handing it down to someone someday, cuz its definitely built to outlast me.
A little bird recently told me that Jim is having a 10% off sale on lots of stuff, including quivers…

After a month of chasing elk, and cutting most carbs and dairy out of my diet, I’m down to my fightin’ weight, bruthah!

I think about that a lot with all of the good things I have such easy access to – that many save up for years to come out and do the same thing, and I should never let myself take it for granted.
But the lure of the exotic is an irresistable siren sometimes – and if I can spot and stalk a javelina this Jan. with my longbow, I’ll consider a ‘dream hunt’ ticked off the list!
And Tailfeather – git yer butt out to AZ and join us!

…We summited a mountain and explored miles of ridges and valleys….so many memories and great experiences. Injury had prevented me from using my recurve the last couple of years and it finally happened. Theres something special about it. I have a hard time finding the words to explain it. As I don’t know any other traditional archers I get a lot of flack that I’m not using my compound and most folks seem perplexed when I say I don’t plan to use it again.
Anyway…I’ve fallen in love with traditional archery, the mountains and elk hunting. I will dream about them until next year!
No need to explain those impulses here, compadre (and yes, I was in a similar conversation just the other night with someone who couldn’t understand why I “wasted” so much time in the woods instead of pulling out my rifle and filling the freezer). You’ve come to the right place.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #62473Good luck on those mulies, Ralph!
After a morning of driving and meetings and an afternoon of mundane tasks around the house, I needed to get out this evening and whack a few stumps and hopefully stumble across a grouse or two before dark. None of the latter were seen, but many of the former were laid low by the Primal Styk. I know of few things more therapeutic than a little stump shooting in the woods…
in reply to: Dream Hunts #62300Honestly, mule deer and elk out the back door, javelinas in AZ, the bear hunt in coast AK that Sean described, caribou in the Yukon, or chasing just jackrabbits in the sage lands west of where I live, they’re all dream hunts.
