A few teasers and a hint of the funny story….

in reply to: Review of 2" Rayzr Feathers… #29531This just thread just reminded me to give an “Amen!” For open-mindedness, experimentation, and freedom of speech!! 😀

in reply to: New Robertson on the Way… #29315Funny story about that….but it will have to wait till I get home.

But I prefer the always-ready, go-to certainty of a glove for hunting. We shall see.
I always have too, Dave. But on the other hand, I like the way a tab works when worn over a warm glove. And I can buy a couple nice cordovan tabs for the same price as a good glove!
Obviously, it all works. The point of my post was more just about trying new things, and the surprising results that sometimes happen, even when you think you have it “figured out.”
in reply to: Montana pitch blend vs Obenauf's #27990Honestly, I couldn’t tell you what the difference is, since I’ve always used MT Pitch. But they both seem to do the same thing, and both are all natural. I’ve just never felt a need to try anything else.
in reply to: DVD ideas??? #27155“Bowhunting Reflections” by Steve Gorr, Fred Anderson and friends is also good. Lighthearted and fun, but with some good hunting as well. Looking forward to checking out their new one “Pure Bowhunting.”
“Instinct” is also a fun, well-done trad bow video done by two Hawaiian guys. Lots of DIY hunting on the islands.
in reply to: American Leathers #27049Expect it to be on the tight side when you first get it. Elk leather will stretch and form fit nicely with a little time. One of the subtle design features of American Leathers gloves is the slightly angular cut of the wrist strap, which does a smart job of pulling the glove on to your hand as it gets broken in.
Also, I recommend giving it a little love with Montana Pitch Blend every now and then.
in reply to: Any Boker Knife guys out there? #26872Looks like a sweet classic! I have a few Bokers, but nothing as old as that one appears to be. If someone doesn’t come out of the woodwork here with the info you’re looking for, you might want to post this over on Bladeforums, in the “Traditional Folders” board. There are some walking encyclopedias of knife history over there.
in reply to: American Leathers #26868Been using one exclusively for the last two years. Still going strong, which is longer than any other glove I’ve used. Love ’em.
in reply to: Juniper Self Bow #26440Sounds a little sketchy for a self-bow, just going off the description, without pics.
But juniper sure makes for lovely limbs:
in reply to: Smithhammer #24315Likewise!
in reply to: Minimum poundage to harvest whitetail #23633AlexBugnon wrote: The setup is fine. The 25 yards distance, on the other hand, could be ok, I guess,if you practice enough. My personal range is defined as such: I run a 100yard sprint (for buck fever heart rate), stop and shoot 1 arrow. I retrieve the arrow. I repeat the whole thing 2X. the 3 arrows have to hit the target perfect. I increase the distance every 3 arrows. if my last good group is at let’s say 40 yards, my hunting range is half that, at 20. This season it was 45 yards, so I made my range ballpark 22, given +2 -2 according to situation. Very “rainman” isn’t it? 😀
Have fun!!
Alex
That just inspired me to get off my @$$.
in reply to: New Robertson on the Way… #22850Thanks – I really just need to call in sick to work until it arrives, since I’m having a hard time focusing on anything else. Like Browning shotguns, Bark River knives, and Ruger pistols, Robertsons are a serious weakness for me…
