in reply to: Question For Troy & Dr. ED? #33055
Thanks Dr. Ed. It’s good to know you have gotten a weaker spined arrow to bare shaft on an EFOC arrow. I did spend a few weeks tuning different shafts and just found it odd that the best shaft I found had such a light spine. It also seemed that when carbon shafts are cut shorter than 28″ they get very stiff. I guess most people have longer draw lengths therefore never get to test shafts shorter than 29 – 30 inches. I also found if I left a stiffer spine long they would bare shaft good for me. I just don’t like 4 inches of shaft & 3 inches of broadhead hanging off my shelf. AS you mentioned before; building out the riser seemed to make it easier to tune a shaft. Thanks
in reply to: Who is your bowhunting hero and why? #27475Barry Wensel. After viewing Bowhunting October Whitetails in the 1980’s I knew there was something to shooting traditional equipment. I had only been bowhunting for 2 seasons but at that time got rid of my compound, bought a recurve and never looked back. I also had the pleasure to hunt with Barry and he is a super great guy!
in reply to: CO last day elk hunt: a story of success #27463Great stuff. Thanks for sharing!
in reply to: Ultra-EFOC Barely Above The Heavy Bone Threshold #58084Dr.Ed, your reports are amazing. Being a person who has MS I am no longer able to shoot bows in the 60-65# range. My current bow is 50#. I am shoooting 650-670 grain carbons with 28% FOC. Because of your unselfish research I am able to continue hunting knowing I am shooting an arrow/broadhead combination that is more than adequate for the local whitetail population. Glad to see you are posting again. May God bless You. Thanks
in reply to: El Grande flight tests #45883Dave, I have been shooting El Grandes for three years now. This year will be the first with the 200 grain heads. Yes, you are 100 percent correct about arrow flight. They definitely fly better than field points with an EFOC set-up. My carbons weigh 670 grains with 28.5% FOC. Once sharp they are (IMO) the best broadhead made. They are almost impossible to damage! I use a file then the KME broadhead sharpener. After some great instructions from Ron I am able to get them shaving sharp. Penetration is awesome!
in reply to: Grizzly tough! #63393This is the second year I have used the el-grande. Just yesterday I harvested my 8th whitetail with the SAME broadhead! Even after shooting through bones the broadhead has not been damaged. Most of the time I can still shave hair without doing a thing to the broadhead. It only takes about 5 minutes to touch up the head using my KME broadhead sharpener to make it hunting sharp. Yes Grizzlies are tough as nails!
