When hunting for mushrooms Nate do you have to get up as early as we do/ I got turned on by the wife and love the fresh flavor. Luckily ours need no lead but need to get there early or they get gone.

Didn’t BountyHunter who used to post here and makes custom arrows also make a few custom heads to shoot with also. I wonder what happened to him. Might want to do a search on his handle

There are so many ways to hunt, the big one is to find a good waterhole that is being hit to set up on in the early part of elk season for midday hunts. For those I create a mini blind out of whats available there at the waterhole. In the morning or late evening I do a bit of spot and stalk or still hunting to find the elk, or deer.

Donnie, really like your last post that sums it up for me. However I still occasionally go to the range to practice at known distances to keep an eye on what feels like a certain such as say 50 yards.

I just don’t see a preserve as a form of hunting I see it more as a form of getting an animal, to me no real hunting occurred. As to if we should take others especially younger people to shoot there. I disagree I think when we are teaching we should have the highest standard of morals an ethics to set for others and preserves don’t set that standard. As far as exotics go yes I would love to hunt them in there native place one day as I keep saving the money to do it. As far as it being the place for new hunters to go I disagree today so many sates offer for youth and others different hunting opportunity’s so they do not have to go the preserve route. Heck even this great magazine offers a links of mentor on here somewhere that have agreed to help others with their hunting journey. Finally while marketing is a necessary tool for a company to make money, becoming a wise sportsman means not buying into the hype about what we need an instead tread a path of buying what is appropriate to help with hunting not over gadetize to where we lose our intuition and ability to think.

While I am not Don I think for broadhead i would recommend a VPA 200gr since the last one I went stump shooting with hit a rock and stuck in when I missed the target. Any poundage should do a good pass through or you could always count coupe and hit the driver with your limb of your bow when they drive by. 😆

I haven’t tried this but another idea is to put a treat of some kind say gim in the balloon and then fill with air and have them aim for that and if they break the balloon they get the treat.

Nate no worry’s not snarky but funny I enjoyed it. I just remember that recently one of hunting buddies tried a new area and due to worry’s about bear he carried his whole deboned bull elk out in one trip horns and all. Granted he slept for like 12 hours after that 😀

I was wondering the same but when I first read T’s piece it sounded like he was carrying the whole elk out in one trip. 😀 My reading comprehension must have been poor. Anyway I looked at the Mystery Ranch out of curiosity but the 490.00 price for the pack for a person my size has me choking a little. You are right I need to seal the deal on my elk to get a chance to try my new pack and see how it works.
