Most toilet rings are now made of a petroleum based wax with a real tacky and greasy feel. The old beeswax ones are rare and If you did find one that says beeswax I would imagine its only a certain percentage. Some seals also have anti-microbial chemicals imbedded in them to prevent molds and mildews, these types are the only ones that require an MSDS sheet so I imagine the regular ones are just everyday petro wax.

My neighbor down the road just picked up a ghost blind, and I have to admit its pretty neat. Its mirrored and canted towards the ground to reflect the surrounding environment. Plus it has no top so your bow hight won’t matter. Its only 12# and you can relocate it pretty quick. But he paid a pretty penny for it. $300-400 with the carry bag.

Happy thanksgiving all!!! I’m thankful for God, my family, my freedom, my job (especially these days) and that Robin can’t stop me from being a glutton today! 😀

Oh and I’m thankful for stretchy pants:lol:

I just used the Primos “long” bleat can to bring in a four point this morning. He came in grunting and making lots of noise. It’s the same as the medium can but a little longer. I think it gives you a little more flexibility in the lenght of your call. I used the regular (medum?) size last year till it died. The diaphrams last about 2-3 years which isn’t bad since you only pay $10 bucks or so. They say the large Can will reach out at greater distances or cut through the wind but it has a deeper sound and I worry that it would intimidate some deer. Hope that helps.

I’ll second what Cody said about the “can”. I have had great luck attracting both Bucks and calming does with it. It also gets a fun reaction out of squirrels sometimes. I usually call with it 1-3 times taking breaks for “breath” and sometimes I’ll remove my finger from it halfway through sequence to get a variation so it doesn’t sound so…canned. I was having a really slow day last season and got really agressive with the Can just to see what would happen. The buck in my avatar photo came in foaming at the mouth and gave me the dream set up. I swear by the thing. Grunting on the other hand, hasn’t yeilded anything for me yet. It seems to scare away all but the biggest deer in my neck of the woods. I almost wonder if its too “mature”(intimidating?) sounding. And rattling only seems to bring in woodpeckers for me. But I think thats more of a user error than anything.

LOL EFOC thats pretty darn funny.
Its great to hear he’s on the mend. Its will never cease to amaze me how the more dedicated hunters will overcome any ailment and get back to it. I had an instructor at my hunter safety course in Florida that had lost both legs from the knees down. He too had EFOC so I’m assuming it was diabetes. Anyways the guy still hunts and not only hunts but he demonstrated how to use a climber. I wouldn’t have belived it if he hadn’t taken one of his legs off and threatened to beat one of my class mates with it! Anyways keep it up Doc but don’t over do it!

Thats a great pic! It makes you feel like your right there. But that might just be wishful thinking on my part. More overtime than hunting this year! lol

I really wasn’t offended, just dissapointed. I wasn’t trying to come off hard on any one its just that when you see a large viewing with only one response its…well its dissapointing. And a thank you doesnt need to be profound, just heart felt. Those two simple words might not look like much on a thread, but they look better than nothing. Anyways I just don’t want anyone to think I was angry or offended. I cant stay serious long enough to be that way. So on that note Im officially off my soap box! For real this time! 😀

I have some Gold Tip Traditional arrows and have shot each of them over 500 time each (if If I had to guess). They have hit stumps, round bails, foam targets, dirt and rocks, pumpkins (thats fun!) basically everthing but live game so far. So far they haven’t even developed a noticable scratch. The only thing I notice is that the stencled on label is wearing off. But the finish still looks great!

Thank you Robin. It’s sad however that out of the 46 views that this thread has recieved thus far, that no one else had the decency to thank the veterans and those currently serving who also participate in this site. We as tradional bowhunters will talk all day of the high morals we place on a clean and ethical kill, but will cast those high morals aside to neglect giving gratitude (46 times) to those who ensure the fredoms we enjoy (including hunting). I don’t say this for my own good, because I did nothing noteworthy while in the military. But I know we have a few in here that have made sacrifices. For one there is the gentleman who uses the Green Arrow as his avatar (I apologize, I dont know his name or handle off hand). As a combat medic, I believe in Fallujah, he was shot in the wrist affecting what he loves to do. Shoot his bow!
Anyways I’ll get off my soap box and hopefully you all won’t think less of me for my rant. My hope is next time you have the opportunity to thank ANYONE who has made a sacrifice for you (Vets, your mom, Jesus…) I hope you take full advantage of that opportunity and not disregard it…46 times.

Cool video, I’ll have to rewatch that.
                            1) Thats impressive to see a man shoot a muzzleloader with only one working arm! (even if he did shoot it in the neck)
                            2) Buzzards would be hard pressed to get that deer cleaner.
                            3) How is it that his carcass looked that good and clean but mine is always coverd in those darn white hairs!? I’m gonna start taking my beard trimmer to the field with me!LOL

                            Thanks for sharing!

I’m fairly new to this, so I can only make a generalization with what little I have experienced with traditional archery and even with muzzle loading. I thought because I excelled at compound archery and because it came natually to me that the transition would be somewhat easy or even natural. I quickly realized however that I had alot to learn. Between getting my arrows to fly right, hitting what I was aiming at, and having the skill to get closer to my quarry that I ever needed to in the past, I am finding that a heavy dose of patience and real dedication is required. Those two things are getting harder to come by these days. The traditional ways (muzzle loading, bowhunting, homesteading, ect) seem to call out to a certain type of people and even among this small group of people few accept that alluring call. So even if given the marketing and resources needed I dont think it would ever be mainstream. But then who knows? Like I said its just a generalization based on limited experience.

Thats really unfortunate. but…I don’t think quitting should be an option. At 15 he’s taking alot of his first steps into the real world as a man and he’s bound to realize theres alot of idiots out there (especially on the road!!!) And quitting this will make it more of a temptation to quit other things in the future. I didn’t have any family or friends to teach me how to hunt or shoot. Where in your sons case it sounds like he’s got a level headed dad to teach him what he needs to know. So I would say just get that piece of paper and then you can teach him the right way. From father to son!:D At any rate I would still express your dissapointment to the instructors. As for the classmates that are making fools of themselves, just ignore them and hope that natural selection will take its course!
