in reply to: Aluminum Arrows #50618
I use aluminums quite a bit. I shoot whatever material the bow likes best…sometimes thats aluminum. Very consistent, pretty darn durable.
in reply to: Got a couple this morning… #43575Our rabbit cycle seems up this year. I hit a state land area this morning with some friends (Mike Vines and Steve Osminski). Daisy had rabbits going all morning, but none in the bag. The 2 in the pic from yesterday will be pot pie by supper time!
in reply to: The Trad Knife Thread #39775I got these from the Asbells. Scary sharp, super affordable.

To most newer shooters, this is what they see as THE WAY to put the proverbial feather in ones hat. These younger members are requesting that we set up longer range targets. (We have them up to 40 yards now.) 😕
One can argue specifics on individuals, but the trends in ‘bowhunting’ are undeniable.
Are these individuals planning on taking super long shots on game or simply having fun target shooting?
I shoot at water bottles, pine cones, and targets with my recurve at 50+ yds all the time. It’s fun! But…. I’d never in my life dream of taking a shot on an animal past 20yds.
Long range practice is my favorite. I love watching the fletching hurtle away….and it realy points out flaws in your form. But I haven’t shot at deer further than 17 yards or so, ever.

When contemplating a fatal arrow, I take as few chances as possible.
in reply to: What if …? #36983I think for the most part, traditional bowhunters DO consider the important details of our arrows. Ask an average compound shooter about thier set tup….I have met darn few that could tell me how much thier arrow wieghs. Fewer yet that actually SHARPEN a broadhead.
A worse concept than arrow construction, is the long shot. How many guys can honestly say that they would hold thier fire on a record book whitetail if it were slightly out of range? I meet guys at every shoot who talk about thier self imposed range limits….mine is about 20 yards (I say ABOUT because I never actually measure it)…yet you hear stories that go like :
“Well, he was a little far (or the wrong angle) but he was the biggest buck I have ever seen!”
In my mind, a perfect trophy is all the more reason to only take slam dunk shots. How sad is it to have the best buck in your area die deep in the swamp, unrecovered, with an arrow through the guts?
Sorry Dave, different direction, but same theme…
in reply to: Kalamazoo? #24681I will be there for sure, working in the Asbell booth. Dave….email me you flight info, I will see you at the airport!

in reply to: Back Quivers, let's see em… #19100I used my new MAL back quiver all day yesterday chasing rabbits. I loved it! Very easy to put arrows back in, they are positioned perfectly to withdraw quickly.
in reply to: 3 arrow groups on the same target #18616As much as I love wood arrows, I often recomend new shooters (or old shooters like me in a slump) go to aluminum or carbon arrows for a time. New shooters have enough to worry about, with form and release, knowing your shafts aren’t the culprit saves some frustration.

I agree Sir, but would add…in a hobby niche’ such as traditional archery, bowhunting, it is helpful to the “cause” to voice ones ethics and critique our comrades ethics if they raise an eyebrow. It very well may be, that the NON-hunting (read that as votes we can sway to our side)views the Tred Bartas of the world as an example of our ethical base as a whole.
