in reply to: What ya got goin? #32693
Get me caught in a foot snare and I might feel the same as the grizz, might PO’D.
I’d be a bit more peaceful you come to help me though. The tree be OK too. 😀
I understand the sobering thinking there. We’d be nothing compared to the tree.
Thanks Bruce for satisfying my curiosity.
in reply to: New tor Bows #32689I think the points Mr. David ‘doc noc’ brought out about over bowing one’s self are way most important. The bad habits you learn by doing so stick with you and will bite you always.
His advice is super sound. Good luck and enjoy.
Like all addictions though, you can only blame yourself. 😀

in reply to: What ya got goin? #32681Was he in a trap when he that took place or what? Mad at the tree? Just wonderin’. 🙂
in reply to: Cutting parabolics into shields? #31969I’ve done it. Modified lots of pre-cut feathers for various reasons. Seem to work fine for me.
I bet through time there’s been a million personal cut feathers used. :wink
I usually order 5″ when I order pre-cuts then use my choppers to modify to 4″ or 3″ or whatever. That way I can play with one order of 100 feathers.
in reply to: Bright Fletching/Wraps and Hunting #31759I have an acquaintance that I taught how to build wood arrows. He was so proud of a batch he made here recently and they are nice but, light brown, a bit of black cresting with light brown fletching and a brown nock. “Them deer ain’t gonna see these” he says.
He spends a lot of time looking for errant arrows. 😀
in reply to: adding weight to rear o f shaft…affect on spine? #30850Looks like to me that your #2, asking about weaker spine, would pertain to poundage.
in reply to: Bright Fletching/Wraps and Hunting #30803I also use bright feathers, several different colors, orange, white, chartreuse, yellow or combinations of them and I have never felt I was busted because of them.
Movement is the deal, not color but brighter colors may be easier to spot when moving around but movement gonna get you busted anyway.
I don’t like to shoot arrows that I can’t see the fletchings as the arrow flies. It’s just part of the peripheral vision thing I think.
Fred Bear liked white, not only for the camera to see but for him to see also.
Nothing like trying to find camouflaged arrows in the bush..:D
in reply to: adding weight to rear o f shaft…affect on spine? #30752Would we be shooting the same poundage at 28.5″ and 27″? Before I decide to let my thinker work. Probably won’t know nothin anyway but just wonderin.:D
in reply to: What ya got goin? #29086Figured out how fast you could move eh. 😀
Untold times my longbow has probed the snaky looking bushes ahead of me.
Fried eggs from friendly advice. That’s a good deal.:D
in reply to: What ya got goin? #28648Not Myrtle, it’s Tonkin bamboo. Pretty stuff. She’s 62″. At 69 years old I’m way happy shooting 45# to 50# bows. Got nothing to prove and they’ll do the job I need to do.

Anyway I figured FOC on a carbon arrow I’ve been playing with. 515 gr., 29″ and a calculated 22.5% FOC at this point in time.
The arrow shoots great.
Now after this long story, here in Amarillo, the wind ain’t blowing today so I can’t add to the wisdom being handed out here. It is a rare event, no wind, not so rare me not adding wisdom.:D
I’ll be able to let you know soon about wind effects on some shafts by comparison I’m sure.
It may be that we around here are so used to shooting in the wind that our brains just takes care of business and it might mess me up thinking on it.
