As an afterthought also, if you’re near where I’m dragging a deer in this canyon land full of mesquite, prickly pear, grass burrs and whatever, you’d probably be wise to turn the volume down on your hearing aids. I have a tendency to say what I think…
in reply to: Hunting 2016 #38147My deer drags. Easy to make. To use, turn your butt to the deer’s head pull the handles up to your waist area and pull. These keep the deer’s head off the ground, far enough behind you it’s not bouncing off your calves. You can get the hell loose from it also if on a side hill, or going downhill and things go south.
I have a style that has a harness that goes over your shoulder. I took a Nantucket sleigh ride down a snowy slope strapped in that thing….ONCE…. 🙁
As you can see from the picture, you can drag for a looooonnng time too.
These are are also handy around the house for dragging off cut branches and such when trimming trees.
in reply to: Treestands #33282Hey Grumpy,:D. Good’un…
Wonder how many bald eagles we have perched in tree stands???
in reply to: Hunting 2016 #27491I have a good friend that has hearing aids. He’s really good at selective hearing. Blames it on the batteries though. :D:D
His wife really knows better 🙄

Still waiting for daylight here.
I get up at 0530, I have since time began I think. I probably got in trouble as an infant wanting my 0530 …bottle or whatever…:D:D
So this time of year I sit here waiting for first light. Next week after the time change I’ll be bitching cause I have to get up an hour earlier to be where I wanna be by daylight. An extra hour sleep????? Not if your a hunter….. or a farmer going to plow at first light…Or a rancher going to feed……..
Who does the thinking……………
Have a good day y’all……..or it is it “youse’all”………….
just wonderin,

Be well and blessed.
Ralph & Shirley. Diamond is well now… at the Rainbow Bridge
Ready to start hunting again. Cooler weather with maybe some moisture heading to us.
Shirley and I went to the lease today, without Diamond , and we did fine. I checked my cameras and still just does and small bucks. Turkeys too. Maybe this cool down coming will get the bigger deer to moving about.
Quail, man we got tons this year. It was good that we left them alone during the drought. They’ve recovered nicely.
in reply to: Treestands #15369I don’t even wanna tell you how to take a header from a “ground stand”:D but for sure don’t try to knee walk downhill into a gully. I spooked all three of the bucks I thought I’d get ahead of for an attempted ambush. I reckon if they lived long enough they’re still laughing (it’s been 10 years or so since that happened, older now and perhaps a bit wiser):?:?
Maybe I be glad there’s no trees where I hunt to stand in. A header might be a bit rougher on me if’n I was elevated some.
Mesquites are not trees. They are thorny monsters.
Seriously I’m glad we talk tree stand safety. Sure don’t want anyone buggered up for taking shortcuts.
in reply to: Hunting 2016 #14313in reply to: Fred Asbell Wool Haversack. #56140There’s two large inside pockets and two small ones (appx 6″x6″)
Small ones are just right for small flashlight, phone, little goodies. I keep my phone in the small pocket that’s up against my body and my flashlight in the one on the outside. Both of these small pockets are internal to the bag.
I have a pouch that I put inside one of the big pockets that contains my emergency stuff (TP) 😉 and such. A Mora knife and it’s sheath clip to the divider between the two large pockets.
A pair of gloves and a large silk kerchief are also in the bag.,
