in reply to: Aluminum Arrows #49448
Funny you brought that up today. I was out back shooting my 2016’s. I have a longbow that seems to shoot those better anything. I started with aluminum and always keep some around. Like you say, easy to tend to and build from the git go.
in reply to: The Trad Knife Thread #48150My first hunting knife was a buck also. There symbol of cutting a bolt with the knife and a hammer? Well I cut a pelvis with a rock:o. They ask me how I broke the knife. They replaced it with no problem but somebody slipped a handwritten note in the package that said “Don’t believe everything you see.” Lesson learned. I sharpened that knife so much that the point was not protected within the handle anymore when it was closed and became rather unsafe so I retired it. Nice to see these knives.
in reply to: Glove vs. tab #47450Neil, we don’t have near that many horny toads around here so the “drier’ it gets, no problem. Looks like your wife could use a little help:D. Hope I didn’t start somethin’. 😆 The way I was shootin this evening maybe I need a little sorcery used on my no anchor tail. Thought I’d add a touch of green:D

10/4 on hard to find rabbits..drought has taken it’s toll.
in reply to: long shots #47416I agree. I learned my lesson, as stated in the “other” thread, a long time ago and I hope people take heed.
in reply to: Brace Height Reference List Anywhere? #47405Once upon a time 😀 in the way past I had an old Pearson recurve that was given to me. I found a list of older model bows that had suggested string lengths, brace heights and such. I searched last night for a couple of hours trying every wording I could come up with to use in the search engines to no avail. So I’m betting the best anyone can do is follow the advice others have given to use for starting points. Sad to say about that old bow, I checked her over very carefully, strung her, put her down to go fetch some arrows and she blew just laying there. Good that she wasn’t in my hands but sad cause I should have just kept her for a trophy wall hanger. Never know. So anyway, maybe someone will come up with the correct wording and find that old link. Good luck.
in reply to: Humidity in new shop (new bow pics added) #47398Good luck on your problem Troy. I’ve been watching with interest and curiosity. Having never lived in humid country, only visited long enough to know you gotta be used to it (humidity)it’s an interesting topic for me.
In our semi-arid country here in the panhandle a day of 30% humidity is uncommon for most of the year. Negative dewpoints not unusual.
Anyway, I’m watching and good luck. Looks like your gaining.
in reply to: Washington Elk… #46255“I’d feel right at home as I think it rains about the same amount in WA as here.”
:D:D:D
Ok, you can come here and hunt elk when it rains.
in reply to: Fast arrows #46236Yep, we used to have an old saying “if you can reach it you can shoot it again”. Substitute “catch” for “reach”. Way good. 😀
in reply to: Fast arrows #46179I don’t know how fast my bows are but I always try to get 10 gr. per # +/_ a bit. I shoot mostly 500 to 525 gr. with wood shooting 47 to 50 lb. bows. I have some carbons that are like 496 gr. but with 225 gr. up front they make a nice “thunk” when they hit. I see a lot of the target shooters nowadays shooting light weight bows and little bitty arrows. Their game, speed? Yep and they beat me no matter what I shoot :lol:
in reply to: Glove vs. tab #46177You ain’t gonna like it when I get the rain and you get the flies. Get a big tab and it’ll be a good fly swatter too. :~}} Just strap it on snug. :):)
in reply to: Humidity in new shop (new bow pics added) #46175I think what he’s sayin is I have some kinda problem with humidity! Or perhaps lack of it. Seems there’s a lot of water to cross between us.:lol:
Around here Troy, you just leave the door open and the dust dries it all out for you.
in reply to: Glove vs. tab #45888I was sitting on the edge of a cliff glassing and had my tab turned around on the back of my hand. I swatted a fly and my dang tab slipped off and went flying down the canyon. Had to turn into half mountain goat to fetch it. Lesson learned? Use tab in winter when no flies? :D:D:D Just be a little smarter actually. I always have a spare tab and or glove in my bag (Wexbow, you ain’t gonna believe this) in case it rains 😆 or the flies get really bad.
Right now since my bow hand is about well and I’m shooting again I can’t decide on tab or glove. Never really have anyway it seems anyway. I think one should stay in touch (pun intended)with both because you never know what might be available at some point in time.
in reply to: A comment on crossbows #44588Not an xbow but I couldn’t help it. Excuse the caveman art but that’s just me….
