in reply to: sloppy release…help me… #27869
Heck,Neil, my house is paid for and I can’t afford to go to Ireland and drink whiskey either. We missing something here? 😆
Guess I’ll go to Memphis, :)Texas that is, in the morning, spend three days helping my buddy set up two 30 target courses for their annual TBOT (Traditional Bowhunters of Texas) shoot. I’m the only one that don’t drink so it takes some real cunning to outwit juicy minds sometimes. A simple “you cain’t do that” rarely works. 😆
By the way, can one go to Ireland and not drink whiskey:? Just looking for advantages to win . Don’t think sober would help me much though sometimes.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #24742in reply to: I just bought my first longbow. #23173Your flexation like my flimsible. If you know your business, I mean what more can I say?:lol: It take flexation to chunk an arrow with those flimsible thingys.
in reply to: I just bought my first longbow. #23164That’s funny!!! I knew there was something to that old saying “It’s never too late for an old ‘master’ to learn new tricks” 😆 Think that’s how it must be phrased down under. 🙄
in reply to: New Bow in the house #22013Mighty fine!! You guys making me want one I guess you know. Just never shot a short bow with the forward looking riser (a name for that?). Bet they’re sweet.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #22012in reply to: Stonehenge a giant blind? #21996in reply to: The Election Buck #21987Nice!!! I like the “lazy” antler. Glad your kickin’ again. I think your “fall” camo be a year round thing here in our drought conditions. 😀
in reply to: What ya got goin? #21980Need to move that stump a yard closer. 😆 Nice looking bow. It peaked my interest so I went to Mr. Kendall’s website and found he his full up for 2013. Good to be busy.
My “wassup” today here in Amarillo is to watch the wind blow and hope the 20% chance of rain turns out to be a 100% at my house.
in reply to: How far will you shoot? #20866Not gonna argue anything, your abilities and skills and equipment plus your integrity/ethics ought to dictate whether you should take the shot or not.
I’m just curious. You read old archery stories and articles, go to the archery library site, http://www.archerylibrary.com/, and do some reading and wonder who made it and when did it appear, the “20 yard rule”. “Practicing close shooting, 60 yards and under” 😕
Just food for thought 😆 and my being an ornery old cuss. 😉 My 2¢
I shoot a lot of 30 yd. shots just cause and I may have to sometime. Watching a cactus pod shatter at 50 yds. is impressive but that’s not saying I’ll shoot at an animal that far. Doubt that I’ll ever have a want to. A lot can happen to an arrow’s flight during that time span and distance. An animal can get out of position in a heartbeat also.
There are and has been shooters and hunters way better than I and I think not to judge their abilities. It’s the folk who just gotta shoot something no matter what, with whatever, no matter how far, or at what angle that get under my skin.
Still just me babbling, R²
in reply to: What ya got goin? #20059Hey Neil, played photographer for prom grandson and didn’t get to go. Better place I was tho. Kids need dad even if it’s old grand dad that’s dad. My kids, her kids, our grandkids… If those boys bring home some more kids to raise………..
Good tourney Sunday even if my beat up hand got beat up more shootin my all wood composite bow. I can’t really feel hand shock much with it but it beats me up after a day shooting.
89 deg yesterday, 35 today w/35 mph N wind. Brrrr….
in reply to: What ya got goin? #19718Jim, where you’ve been you’ve well earned that fear of the dark my friend. Thanks for that service.
I lived in eastern Colo. when young, 13 mi. east of Aquilar. No lights at night except moon and stars. Lots of rattlesnakes and only outdoor facilities. At least those snakes usually made noise. Yours don’t!
You learn to always know where the flashlight is.
Things that make noise in the dark still get my attention.
Wished I’d bow hunted then. Lots of prairie land but the canyons held some monster mule deer bucks.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #19633From my experiences with camels that I recall in Morocco from my youth, they didn’t like me much and the feeling was mutual. Matter of fact, I couldn’t see where they liked anything much, even each other. They sure can slobber a bunch! Yuck!
In the dark on sentry duty is spooky to get surrounded by anything. I think I’ve been surrounded by my imagination a few times cause there were no tracks:wink::wink:
Good luck on the “fishing”. Everyone needs a place to hunt.
in reply to: Shoot a bow for fun. #19051Bow shootin still fun though:lol:!!!!! Girls, girls girls, party, party, bow, party, party, girls, girls, girls. All fun:lol::lol: I ain’t forgot…..:P Never did get over it methinks. The bow shootin part anyway.
in reply to: sloppy release…help me… #19038Thanks Dr. Ed for dinging a bell in my noggin. I used to go to the Texas State Longbow Championship tourney at Ft. Worth and had the privilege of shooting one day with Keith Baines. He and his wife Edith were state champs several times. May still be, I don’t keep up with such anymore. Anyway he pointed out to me that if you keep your bow arm and bow pointing at what you want to hit, you can get away with a lot of stuff with your other hand. I’ve really been doing some stupid lately and I’ve been working, working on release. I noticed awhile ago while shooting outback that my bow was flopping all over the place. That ain’t doin what I’m supposed to be doin’! 😀 So I snugged my grip on the bow kept pushing toward the target and didn’t let it go jumping around and whoa, I’m hitting again. Maybe some people shoot with a loose grip but it don’t work for me. I think I subconsciously regress to my primitive days of compound shooting sometimes and let the bow roll in my hands. No workie!!! Thx for ding for ding a ling 😆
