Wonder how that would work, stumping the ‘AT’, with carrying of any kind of weapon, with rules and regulations involved in all the different states that are on it’s path? Just curious.
After all, I think there are 14 states to contend with. Some got Yankees too :-))……………I never stir the pot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know that when I used to work in NM all the time I’d yearly buy a non resident small game license to cover my tail, just in case, when I was out stumping on State, Fed or BLM land, of which there is aplenty.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134089Hey guys, I Googled ‘cartoons of the wind’ and this is one that popped up so I borrowed it as a joke for the “wind breaks on the plains” reference. The lone tree to hide behind to get out of the wind was the idea. :-))
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134073Ahhh, the “Sounds of Silence”.
Your’re right David, blessed when found but hard to come by sometimes.
My favorite “pasture” to hunt (11oo acres appx.), the one I’m most familiar with on the lease, right now has at least 300 head of cattle on it. Needless to say nowhere on it is there quiet, deer just kind of mosey off and old Ralphie be changing plans where to hunt.
I finally can get to go in the next few days after all said and hopefully done with med problem.
What constitutes a cool breeze? :-))What we have 25-30 mph “breeze” thru the sage that’s a bit cooler than cool this morning!!!
Thank goodness for all the windbreaks on the plains.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134030Cool y’all got to hook up…………
Opening week end in Texas too. First time in I can’t tell you how many years I wasn’t out and about with bow in hand.
Doc had to go in me Friday and remove my kidney boulder and left a stint in me and left orders “to not go and do anything fun”.
The stint was removed this morning, a way more peaceful process I guarantee, but still got “Give it a few days”
. That’s OK, it’s still too warm right now anyway. Close to 90* during day.
Get me over this rock thing then I can get it on!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good hunting to everyone..

in reply to: Good Night and More lessons learned… #133860Enjoyed your story Steve.
Critters been around longer than “uskind”. To bad we’re smart enough to cause their demise eh? Perhaps we’ll be wise enough to prevent that from happening…………
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #133791Actually got an inch of rain last night and raining again right now.
1st cool down tonight also, in the mid 40’s.
And yeah, a ‘bit of breeze’ about………………..
We haven’t had our first “blue norther” yet though.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #133739If only I was as good when stalking deer!!!!
in reply to: Cock feather #133576Ha David….”Like it’s always been done ain’t always a bad deal”. Folks over the millennia have been shooting bows and things that have been passed down to us seem to work fine .
I shoot cock feather away. I shoot longbows mostly, the old fashioned 3/16th” away :-)) from the side plate. Center shot messes up my brain, like it needed added help for that.
I grip the bow way close to the shelf so any thing going on with the feathers get the attention of my index real quick. Like not smoothing down the forward ends of the fletchings!!!!! That’s a quick attention grabber and a way for me to make a subtle hint. :-))
I also don’t glue my nocks on permanent, use just a tad of glue to hold the nock in place, when I fletch the shafts cause I have my own little way of aligning the nock with the feathers.
My index finger is very particular about how I do things and shooting cock feather in has a time or two created a dislike of such.
That though was probably due to a malfunction of mine.
Anyway enough bad experience and scars that I’m happy with the “always done it that away thingy”.
I also shoot some 4 fletch. Why? There’s not only “always done it thataways” but we’re allowed to have “just causes” too.
At my age I figure I can have some “just cause I wannas”.
Be well, R2

in reply to: PVC Kids Quiver Build-Along #133487Steve, from an old master electrician to an old engineer, good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you Jim.. Well spoken…
The love of the flight of the arrow, the lack of complications (only self added to the art of shooting the traditional bow), the peace and friendship of my friends I participate with. What other sport offers such?
If I get flustered when shooting my bow, that frustration can be easily solved, put the bow down and go mess with the rest of the frustrations of life. Those I can’t put down and get away from them.
If the frustrations of life begin to overwhelm me, I can pick up my longbow, grab some arrows and get away for awhile. The frustrations of life go away for a time and I realize my flustered times with bow in hand are only minor compare to the others of life.
Which fingers? Placement of fingers. Arrow type? Bow type? All the other hype?
Be you, enjoy what you do and let the frustrations fly with the arrow……………
Thanks Jim, feeling way better. Don’t know yet where the boulder :-)) is but it’s not in a killing place. Knock on wood..
in reply to: Old photos #133413There was a club out of Kansas or Nebraska, maybe Oklahoma, don’t remember for sure, that had all the targets and traveled around with them. They came here to Amarillo. In the late 70’s or early 80’s.
Hard to forget some things. I helped them pick the targets up and I found one covered in red ants…..too late….quite the strip show I guess as I was shucking clothes.. Some things stick in one’s memory for a long time.
By the way, the pic is not in Amarillo. Need to look for mangrove trees and swamps for this place.
in reply to: Old photos #133405How many have ever tried this? Archery silhouettes?
Foam targets and played like the metal silhouettes with firearms.
Been awhile since this was done, pre-2D and 3D archery…
