Whoops!!!
in reply to: Keeping Trim during the Holidays… #134761Driving home from the hunt today, listening to country music, slurping on a coke and eating a Hershey bar.. That count? :-))
By the way, cold, windy and unfruitful hunt….
in reply to: The best hunting stool #134740New terminology, since we have no stumps for a stump shooting, how about stool stumping? Aplenty of that.
back to hunting stools, it would be nice to have an area to sit and lean back but the best I can do in my area is to find a soft rock and rest for awhile. Stay off the skyline and do some glassing. Play the wind and hope to see before being seen.in reply to: The best hunting stool #134736Hunting stool????….Yep one must be a mite selective. Could get into a real mess if not. 😁
in reply to: The best hunting stool #134692Some kinds of downloads suck. :-))
in reply to: The best hunting stool #134666I used to have this neat little metal framed canvas seat stool that was connected at the bottom with a bit of chain and a latch. An X shaped little thing. Pretty handy, weighed nothing, kept my butt about a foot off the ground.
Problem, it’s amazing how far a one foot fall is when one is totally relaxed and the little chain breaks. 😯 I nearly cracked my tailbone.
Truth be known, methinks some feller didn’t do the latch correctly but breakage makes me feel less of a dummy.
in reply to: 60 birthday #134628I be curious to what is taking place with the trad archery brotherhood and bow hunting in European and other countries of the world.
I do know that at one time traditional archery was a big deal in places in Europe. Great Plains used to send quite a few bows to Europe.
Is it, hunting, as available to the populace as it is here in the states, etc?

in reply to: Need advice #134502Maybe that’s why I call them *&#*heads as they disappear y’spose?
in reply to: Need advice #134486The first deer I killed with a longbow, a 10 yard or so shot, made me realize that I could be a real hunter and not just a shooter.
And like Steve said, there’s way more to it than the kill.
I have observed way more of nature since I started hunting with my longbow. Especially since where I hunt it’s pretty much spot and stalk so you can just imagine I have lots of time to observe.
Whitetails flagging me and mule deer stotting away are commonly observed.
There’s things like hearing a covey of quail chirping, chatting among themselves and you go around them instead of the flush. A porcupine shuffling by a foot away from your foot. Watching a roadrunner capture a lizard for supper, that within an arms reach. Coyotes don’t turn around the other way when you draw your bow at 15 yards, they invert front to back and are gone.
Many more little treasures like those in my memories.
So could luck and enjoy the simplicity’s of live.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134382That’s why it’s so great to go snooping around with my longbow in hand, my biggest worry is what I can get into all by myself, not have added human interference.
I’ve slowed down too. Not particularly interested in any Ralphie wobbles….
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134377Well, saw no deer, no turkeys, no quail, 2 doves and at least 300 head of cattle.
Must be some correlation there y’spose?.
Top it off, if’n you get bored, look up ‘Dodge Death Wobble’ (there are some videos) and you’ll see what scared the peewadden outta me on the way home and why it took me a long nervous, tense time getting there. 60 miles can be a forever.
I don’t scare to easily but when the front end of the truck went crazy at 60 mph I got ‘skeered” big time.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134361David, I’m finally going to get out tomorrow. I get to see if mud will allow me to get into my preferred areas.
Sometimes though, I’m surprised what I find in places that I’m thinking aren’t so preferred by me but are maybe preferred by what I seek. Could be a reasoning behind this, ya think.
Congrats all the way around and welcome.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134149How’s y’all’s archery season faring?
