in reply to: What ya got goin? #20095
You sure have pretty country to take pictures of. The memories of my years in southern Idaho as a youth are etched in my mind.
I’ve learned though all through the years and in all of the places in this country, north Africa and central Europe that I’ve been that there’s some kind of beauty everywhere. You just have to sort it out and recognize it.
You have chosen to live in a place where that is easy to do.
I’ve been in some places though, when thinking back on it, that it make me wonder why I just said what I said.:D Dust storms have been bad around here this year but until you’ve been in a Sirocco on the edge of the Sahara…the beauty of that is when it’s finally over and you’re still alive.
To me the beauty of things, I guess, is that which you can pull out the dark and into the light and appreciate where it all comes from.
Just me thinkin, Ralph.
in reply to: Eye Glasses for Archery? #19819I think Mr. Peterson put something on here about a flock of 😀 hares:D here awhile back. 😀 Not see it:?
That spot behind the shoulder on a hare?
Back to topic, I’m glad that Mr. R2McGoo here is still able to shoot and enjoy.
Have a good day. .01″ inch of rain and I’m going out to celebrate.
in reply to: Eye Glasses for Archery? #19792Steve,
Inspiration:? Ha, the old adage,”Pick three hairs and shoot at one”? It’s OK methinks to be able to shoot at the three and I’m sure to hit one. 😀
And now it’s my other arm that hurts so I went to a different Doc. 😀 Danged if there ain’t a new system out there that made the price go up.
in reply to: Left Wing or Right Wing Helical? #19106“Once the arrow is loosed at a live animal all kinds of crazy thing reportable happen.”
:wink:Yep, a muffed shot ain’t selective about helical or arrow spin.:D
I twist the point threads in bowstring wax a little, heat it with a lighter a bit, just till it just gets liquid, don’t take much, then screw into the insert while wax is molten. Never come loose. As a matter of fact, sometimes I need to heat the point a tad to get it to unscrew easily.
in reply to: Epoxy and glue #19034Good points:wink: Ontario. I shoot wood mostly, aluminum secondarily and I’m still experimenting with carbons.
I have always used hot melt for installing inserts. With the carbons I epoxied my first two sets of inserts in because I was learning. I liked the arrows and had some screw in broadheads to try and said to me, “Doo doo, whoops. Epoxy no is bueno for that, can’t align my broadheads” and wondered if others do when their inserts are epoxied in. Like you I always align mine the same, easy with hot melt and with epoxied inserts that ain’t gonna work.
I remedied the situation by buying some broadhead adapters and using some glue on broadheads and saved the screw-ins for my aluminum shafts.
The broadhead adapters did give me a bit more weight on the front, turned my 125 gr. broadheads into 147 gr. which was fine. You can buy those in different weights also, the adapters.
in reply to: Eye Glasses for Archery? #18750Same problem Steve so I just go without them. Fortunately I’m farsighted so it’s not too much of a problem. Good that I shoot instinctively where the arrow is just a blurry thing in my peripheral vision cause if I take a gander at it (the tip of my arrow), it’s blurry anyway.
I definitely have to keep a pair of glasses handy though, especially if things close at hand need to be tended to, like score keeping or making any sense out of a text message or to see whose calling. Typing a text is a serious don’t do without my specs. Ain’t no telling what I might type and send to someone. 😀 My fat fingers have enough of a problem with those little qwerty boards as it is.
in reply to: Spring fever #13196in reply to: What ya got goin? #13193in reply to: What ya got goin? #11868I’ve always shot 3-5″ or 4-4″. Since this thread started I got curious. Since we’ve had nothing but windy conditions I thought I’d see what 3-4″ would do. I could definitely see less wind effects with the 3-4″. I haven’t tried broadheads with the 3-4″ yet but I bet it’ll work good. I never have any transition problems with my arrows from field point to broadheads. Could happen but……..We’ll see come Monday. Tomorrow’s gonna be too windy to do anything outside.
I’m talking wood arrows. Carbons are still a play and learning thing for me.
in reply to: Nice turkey hunting find #11166Cool, you found a bow to go with your broadhead!
Hey, good find…..I really enjoy find points and tools. 😀

in reply to: Spring fever #7794Good thing for gravity Jim or y’all be falling off.
What’s winter like in your part of Australia?
Our newly sprung spring is quite breezy and making my backyard archery quite the challenge. The red dot is standing still but what’s trying to hit it ain’t.
