in reply to: New to Flu Flu Fletching #44600I cannot help you on the distance question. I honestly never think yardage on any shot I take. My brain just does it’s thing when I shoot. If I think it’s too far I don’t shoot but when I do shoot there is no conscious thought of distance.
Best thing to do, IMHO, is to make some of each kind and go experiment with what you can do with yourself and your equipment. Distance is relevant to what you’re putting behind the arrow, a 50# bow with same arrow, same draw length, same basic design as a rule will shoot farther than a 40# bow. So you just gotta see what you and yours can do. Have fun.
And, good luck on your search for a lose proof arrow. 😀
in reply to: New to Flu Flu Fletching #44572I use 3 fletch for my flu flu’s mostly. By the time this old brain gets to working I need the extra distance they give me. 😀
I get to watch the miss longer too. 😥
in reply to: TAPERED SHAFTS…historically speaking #43427Yes I’ve read and love the movies, The Searchers” and “The Unforgiven”.
The Comanche were fierce warriors and are still a proud people. I respect them and admire.
My heritage is Cheyenne.
The spirituality of the Native American people, their respect of nature, their ability to survive in a harsh environment and their love and respect of family are virtues lost.
in reply to: TAPERED SHAFTS…historically speaking #43381Yeah I know David. I just came across that article while researching bird points with the hopes of finding an illustration of one attached to a shaft and thought it was just interesting material.
I haven’t found the right place yet to see little points on arrows but some day I’ll word the search right and I’ll come across something.
I might have to go to the Panhandle Plains Museum at the college in Canyon, TX. again and see what I can see. It is a very good museum and the Panhandle is rich in Native American history.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #43350Sounds like a good day David and I’m glad your getting moisture and seeing a bird.
We’re having another dirt storm.
I started to go out this morning but the weather folks put out an extreme fire danger warning and my hunting grounds are very dry tinder right now. With 40+ mph winds it’s my choice to stay away. Wildfires scare the peawadin out of me.
In these kind of winds I don’t feel that one needs to be shooting at critters anyway. I was out back experimenting awhile ago and even at 5 yards arrows were kicking and it was impossible to hold my bow hand steady.
Good day to work on my new dozen arrows I got going.

Not debating, just passing on. 😀
in reply to: What ya got goin? #42933in reply to: Big Jim's Side Quiver #42927Bruce, mine is similar that I got from Raptor Archery years ago. I added the snap on the strap so I can slip the quiver off easily in case I get into super stealth mode and I put an arrow gripper on the outside at the top. That’s where I keep a judo point for easy access.
All the little holes I’ve made because sometime I attach a belt knife on the outside for easy access. Makes me feel better when I’m pig hunting to have a knife close to hand. False sense of security maybe but…..you neva, neva know:D
in reply to: "The Good Hunt" film update #40940Hopefully your efforts and the support of others will prevail. Some people just start seeing stars and get lost on the path and need a little guidance (or a sharp kick in the rear) to get their head back where it belongs.
We hoping.
Bon chance messieurs.:)
