I felt bad though when I told a friend about it and here on the Lake Meredith Rec area, Fed land, he gave it a try, buried the oven up and went hunting. Danged if the feds didn’t bust him for having an unattended fire. Might be a thought for some areas.
You just have to cover the bail with the dirt:wink: Nice video Clay my son has already called bibs on my dutch for his scratch baked beans on the 4th.:D
Coverups don’t always work with Feds right! 😉
in reply to: Question about wood arrow finishes #48351The tops set was outside and getting pretty white and I tung oiled it’ Not as shiny as the lower set that were never in the sun except when the buck was wearing them.
I can’t say the tung oil will make’em look new but way better. Another coat someday might make a big difference. I have a set somewhere that really looks good that I redone but they’re at my cousins at Molina.

in reply to: Question about wood arrow finishes #48072Just my guessin’ but I betcha the first combo could be an issue.
I’ve used tung oil without a problem though.
By the way, tung oil will bring new life to an old faded set of antlers. 😀
in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #47100in reply to: Most Embarassing Shot Anyone? #46036Me turkey too! That heavy a point, not to worry about penetration on a turkey. Sudden impact fatality syndrome.
Umm. A quiver full of arrows gonna require a pack mule. Oh, wrong thread:?
in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #46031Told ya Doc was sniffin paint today. 😀
in reply to: Most Embarassing Shot Anyone? #45968So you guys are kinda saying that we need extremely, extreme FOC to avoid the Hammer high shots?
My arrow wouldn’t have gone over the turkey, glanced off the rock and ended up somewhere if I had so.
Shouldn’t shoot at 5 yards at a turkey showing you his tail feathers I guess. I mean, chip shots. You’d think after all these years I would have learned by now that chip shots do not exist. Maybe I was shooting at his head on the other side of those tail feathers?? I just figured I goofed. He probably was a bad tasting one anyway. Tough or something.:D
At least from what I’ve learned on another thread I have a new excuse. 😉
Are we blending threads? Darn us!!
Doc’s fault. He’s been smelling paint today.
in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #45000Man, if I ever get to 28″ draw there’s gonna be some shooting stars!!!!!:D 40#, 400 gr., 28″ arrow. Whoa, it’s gonna be smokin”.
Moebow wrote: I’ll add that with wood arrows, I am NOT a fan of EFOC or UEFOC! All my woodies are about 14% FOC with 125 grain points. As most wood shaft shooters know, wood arrows tend to break just behind the point and adding weight there just makes the problem worse. Just my feeling.
Arne
Yep. 😀
in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #44895Hey Doc, you gonna be sniffin paint tomorrow so then you’ll be clued in. Patience my friend.:D
in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #44891Bruce, I been on a search mission on my computer looking for a chrono with a 10′ set of rings so I might get an arrow through it at 50 yds. No luck yet though.
You purty fast bugger!!! My 69 year old butt might have to use my 40 # recurve to match your feet .
What happens if the usually don’t happen?
in reply to: Widow test drive #44377Doc Nock wrote: Congrats, Gator! Raid the local recycle bins for cans now thru the wait time and you can help pay for that new bow!
Hey Gator, I know some fellers that if you’d follow them around and collect aluminum you could collect a bow fee quite rapidly methinks.
in reply to: Limb tip protector #44365“Lesson? Why yes, don’t get your bow wet!’
That puts the “lesson” to be learned on a broader scope than “don’t hunt in the rain” 😀
Thanks Steve, I’ll pass it on.
in reply to: Limb tip protector #43762I have a friend who used a rubber type tip protector, got his bow wet, kind of shook off the moisture, put his bow away for a couple of weeks. When he got back to it, the moisture that had been trapped inside that rubber type limb protector had played havoc on his limb tip. Lesson????
