in reply to: xx75 "singing" #57923Hi buejeger
Thought about this one over the weekend, the points may not be lose but the tolerance that the threads are made to may mean that the mating parts are not all in contact when the point is tight, just try a little locktight on the threads see if this damps any resonance in this area. Can’t be any more help than this I’m afraid. Good luck in Africa let us know how you get on.

in reply to: book review #50455Hi Andy*
Hugh Soar wrote a series of article, I think they were entitled ‘The Long Bow at War’ and I am sure that they were compiled into a book and as I write this I’m sure I have a copy I will find it out tonight and post the details. If you enjoyed the ‘Crooked Stick’ I’m sure you will also enjoy the other book.

in reply to: Why are small game hunter #'s falling? #50449I have always enjoyed hunting small game and when out of work a few years ago fed the family that way, the menu included rabbit, pheasant, duck and fish (although the fish were caught on a line).
For the hours spent hunting the greatest return must be small game, even when chasing larger beasts there is still the opportunity to take a rabbit or pheasant when the occasion arises and the great advantage of using a bow is the low level of disturbance.
Both my boys started by hunting rabbits (unfortunately they are both gun hunters, although there is plenty of time for them to see the light) the youngest will be hunting small game as part of his survival training for the Air Force.
The opportunity to learn field craft at a young age is so important, in my opinion it moulds character and forms respect for the environment and the wildlife that we hunt.
When I was younger my rabbit hunting was in the way of payment for help on farms at harvest time or doing odd jobs. I don’t know if this kind of arrangement is still possible.
Happy hunting Pothunter.in reply to: hunting shows part 2 #44792This is becoming like a political or religious debate, carefully craft a question and ask for a one word answer.
If I answer YES to your question am I some kind of pervert lusting after blood.
If I answer NO does that mean we should ban duck stamps because they encourage the killing of ducks.
No more please you are giving me a headache!!!!
Off to find the paracetamol, Pothunter.
in reply to: NEW — Woodsman ELITE broadheads #44625Hi Robin
Look forward to an indepth review of the New Woodsman Elite, hope Jonathan didn’t take ofence at my reply.
Best regards, Mark.
Hi Surveyor
My two peneth for what it’s worth, I use a Selway slide on quiver and this in itself creates no noise, if an arrow has worked lose it may create a little noise when you release but nothing worth worrying about. The only advantage I can see in removing the quiver is to stop arrows, fletches catching any brush, but then you might just remove the arrows. Do you have someone who will lend you a quiver to try?
Good luck, Pothunter.
in reply to: fletching hitting high wrist shooter #43661I would guess your nocking point is a bit low, you may also like to put a dab of glue on the leading edge of the fletch where it meets the shaft this will help reduce the blood loss.
No doubt someone else will be along to give you some better advice.
Best regards, Pothunter.
in reply to: hunting shows part 2 #43650Hi Jonny
Nearly replied to your post yesterday but my reply became so long winded and analytical it was embarrassing.
Her is my view for what it’s worth, traditional archers aren’t slaves to fashion otherwise we wouldn’t be traditional so no amount of advertising is going to persuade us to buy lots of shinny things we don’t need.
If you don’t like the blood and guts don’t do it or watch it.
TV’s are all fitted with a variety of switches the most useful one being the one that turns it off.
Man has been celebrating the hunting and killing of animals since and probably before he began painting on cave walls.
Morals and ethics, I hunt because it satisfies a primitive desire, I don’t need to hunt I could go to a supermarket, I don’t need to be analysed, I pit my whit’s against animals that are better adapted to their environment than me preferably using a bow and sometimes I prevail and provide food for me, family and friends, that’s it.Happy huntin, Pothunter.
in reply to: NEW — Woodsman ELITE broadheads #42540Hi Jonathan
Like your company and your products but can’t help thinking that this should be an advertisement, not a post, suggest you contact Robin for clarification.
Best regards, Mark.
in reply to: How well do you shoot #29102Hi Jer11bravo
I sometimes suffer from hesitation when I’m unsure of a distance, this leads me to double checking and I lose focus on the target, that’s when things go wrong. My solution is to come down from full draw relax get comfortable with the distance and target, start again and shoot without hesitation.
That said your system is obviously working for you so don’t lose faith stick with it.
Is that helpful or just confusing?
Good luck, Pothunter.
in reply to: I never thought it would happen! #26089You might suggest that they commune with the great spirit in a natural environment as did the early teachers, profits and priests prior to the commercialism of the church.
That aside I hope you enjoy your new found freedom to hunt.
Just the opinion of a poor heretic who finds all he needs in nature, Pothunter.
in reply to: Elephant with a bow #25814Although I don’t have a view one way or the other regarding Paza’s comments he does raise an interesting point ‘what constitutes a true bowhunter’ and the importance of fair chase.
Is the true bowhunter defined by the quarry that he pursues or the manner in which he pursues it, can the humble rabbit be as equally prized as an elephant. Does the location or cost of a hunt make a true bowhunter, I hope not.

in reply to: glove or tab? #25803Hi Texasota
I think it comes down to what you feel comfortable with, I also use a glove and find that it is more practical to be able to use my hand in the usual way. When it’s cold I use a woollen glove that I have cut the three middle fingers out of.
Happy hunting, Pothunter. -
