A friend makes his shafts from old pine floorboards he says they need to have been down for 50 years before they learn to behave.

I’m stickin with nice reliable aluminium.

Steve, you may have to improvise with some weight washers up front behind the head, just be careful with that thing in public.

Going back to what we were discussing earlier single bevel wound characteristics and path I mentioned this to a friend who has spent far to long at university and his comments are as follows:

‘One of the instructors on the course I’m going on did part of his masters degree in studying the wound channel and penetration of broadheads into animals. He did it as a Uni project shooting from known power bows at known distances into (dead, obviously) pigs torso’s and measuring and reporting on the results

I will speak to him next week and see if he can answer, If not when I get back I will dig out some of my books on dynamics. This is something you could calculate (approximately) as this would be sufficient enough work to commission a research project into, not a 10 minute job!’

I suggested that he was unlikely to get a commission but Tradbow might publish his work, and it is for the greater good of the community and he should just be grateful he can help, well that met with silence, students.

I await with interest his comments, Mark.

I’ve given the geometry of the different grind types some thought and have the following to add, this is only superstition as I have no means of demonstrating it.

An equal grind on all faces will ensure even pressure on the blade, assuming the medium to be cut is of equal and even density the path the cutting tool takes will be linear.

Change the grind so that it has a ‘single bevel’ and it will on longer have equal pressure/force on both sides of the cutting face this will result in it prescribing a helix as it travels thru the medium.

I believe this is where the increased tissue damage comes from and the ability to burst thru bone.

Get Out Clause, I’ve not read all of Doc Ashby’s work so he may have covered this and I missed it.

Hi Steve, good to hear from you and sorry to learn of your circumstances. I can’t add much to what has already been said other than to say that I hope that you get comfort from their prayers and that I will also be thinking of you and your family.

They are of great beauty, it’s almost unnatural to do that with wood, is there a little ‘voodoo’ going on here:?:

I got hooked without knowing it, my youngest son wanted to try archery so off we go to the local field archery club. A nice old guy hands me a bow and a fist full of arrows and says don’t just stand there have a go, and I’m still havin ago.

As for practice it allows me to try my new bowstrings.

Left to fend for yourself Dave I know the feeling, one saucepan, one plate one mug knife and fork why do women make so much mess in the kitchen. And another thing how does the magic white box work where clean clothes come from. DONT PUT WASHING UP LIQUIDE IN THE DISH WASHER it frightens he heck out of the dogs and takes a lot of cleaning up.

To improve peripheral vision tip your head back slightly.

When trying to locate a noise in thick brush or dark cup hands behind ears, to hear whats going on behind do the same in reverse.

To determine exact wind direction face into the wind and then move your head until the wind is even on both ears.

If you do eat snickers in sub zero temperatures cut it into chunks before setting out allow it to freeze so you can suck on it, lasts longer and wont cost you at the dentist.

Hubertus, vegetarians on a bowhunting site:shock: those will be the quorn hunters:D

I like malt loaf and use it when waterfowl hunting, even tastes fine after a week and doest even mind being sat on, dogs also like it keeps them busy sucking the malt of their teeth. Also have a stash of hard rock candy, for slow sugar release.

                              I like it a LOT.

The Persians, Chinese and Mongols all used horn in their bows ?000’s of years ago so it must be traditional.

That is an extraordinarily beautiful bow, did you take the elk.

When technology has moved on we will be left with traditional, and a huge pile of last years models:D.
