in reply to: A Confession and an Oath #17524
Welcome, LimbLover! I recognize your picture from your Twitter account!
Thanks SB.
in reply to: A Confession and an Oath #17215I forgot the other disclaimer: my son gets my bow and I get the new one this coming year. 😳 😉
I’ve been thinking about it and I think the reason I’ve changed my gear often over the years is it gives me TEMPORARY relief from target panic. It ALWAYS helps, but it’s ALWAYS temporary.
in reply to: Ashby on arrow weight — just posted #16743Thanks SB. Exactly as I had imagined. It makes sense. That broadhead has a broad, pyramid tip, which keeps it out of the cut-on-impact club in my book. From what I can tell, in the only photo of it I’ve seen, that tip has to “plow through” the animal so that the cutting edges can do their job, which would greatly reduce penetration, as in the above referenced case.
Arrow-wise, I’d be COMPLETELY shocked if it was a GrizzlyStik. After all the abuse I’ve put mine through, I am ALMOST of the mind to think they are indestructable. Seriously, I have thought I’d snapped them in half, split the end, but haven’t hurt one yet.in reply to: A Confession and an Oath #16658Greatreearcher wrote: One question, why did you switch from the stingers? Just wondering because that is what I am shooting now and I have not actually killed anything with them, wondering if you know something that I dont!!?
Hey GTA, the blade is too thin and/or soft and the edge rolls VERY easily. Plus, they’re just not as heavy as I’d like. I’m currently at 250 grains with my Abowyer Brown Bears because, for some bizarre reason, I bought the 75 grain adapter, rather than the 125 grain adapter. I’m swapping out the 75’s for 125’s, which will put me RIGHT where I wanted to be (300 grains)…and will remain.

This meant very little penetration and a missed deer. After looking all over during that afternoon, no deer was found.
Do you know what arrow he was using? Did it break behind the threaded part of the broadhead, or at the threaded part? Was he using a 300 Xtreem broadhead? Inquiring minds want to know.
in reply to: Target Panic #16342I finished reading it last night. I wish I could’ve read it 20 years ago! What a great book. Not just because of the target panic section. As far as I’m concerned, it should be mandatory reading (self imposed, of course) for anyone wanting to shoot a bow and/or anyone teaching others to shoot. Part of the reason I initially bought a compound for my son is I didn’t feel confident or comfortable teaching him how to shoot a longbow. That book has prepared me, and now I have the confidence to do so.
(The last sentence is taken from the book. Read it and you’ll see what I mean 😉 )
in reply to: Ashby on arrow weight — just posted #16314😯 Those are some pretty crazy results!
I’d like to know what the specifications for the 31.9% FOC arrow if available.
in reply to: WHATS EVERYONE SHOOTING? #16212I’m shooting a 62″ Northern Mist Baraga 45# @ 28″. With my draw length being approximately 29.5″, I’m a bit over 50#.

🙁 The last time talked to them, they said they’d be shipping to customers by mid-November. Prior to that it was the beginning of November. Don’t hold your breathe.
in reply to: getting started #15281Update: You ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, MUST get “Instinctive Archery Insights” by Jay Kidwell. I’ve drank the koolaide, and it’s good stuff! 😉 😀
With all due respect to all previous mentioned (and implied) authors, make it your next book. It’ll put the whole shot process into perspective and give you a great foundation to “begin” your journey (no matter where you are in that journey).
in reply to: Abowyer Brown Bears #14453I thought it would be good to update you all on how things have been going with these broadheads. I have practiced a lot with them. I have to say that, despite the companies stance, I think the slight tip roll I experienced was a fluke. I’ve not had any other similar results and have put them through materials much more likely to cause the tip to roll, especially after multiple shots.
I’m starting to like these broadheads and the longer it takes for those Ashby’s to arrive, the less I’m willing to change.
I will say, I’m having a HELL of a time re-sharpening them though. Hopefully a KME Sharpening Kit will soon resolve that problem!
in reply to: Target Panic #14214What an awesome book! I’m already a little over half way through it.
Now I just need to get my son to stop laughing at me. He apparently thinks having target panic equates to being afraid of the target.
in reply to: Target Panic #14201I went to Jay’s Sporting Goods today and was shocked, NOT panicked! :-), to find the above referenced book, so I bought it. Thumbing through the Table of Contents I find it is EXACTLY what I need. Thanks for the recommendation.
in reply to: Custom Knife Handle: A Work In Progress #12890Pretty unbelievable, but it arrived in EXACTLY 10 days, but I wasn’t home to sign for it so I picked it up this morning. SB, you truly did an awesome job. Plus, I’ve NEVER felt a knife as sharp as this one is now…NOT exagerating.
Thanks StandingBear, you truly are a standup…Bear?! 😀
in reply to: ABS Maasai single bevel broadhead give away Winner #12067…ddddddddddddddddddddd
I don’t know how long I can sustain this drum roll. My hands are killing me! 😯
