in reply to: Moose Maps… #14909
I’ m no mooser, but I’ve seen them wading the ponds often enough to toss it out. I do believe some of the aquatic plants are higher in sodium, and if I remember that is a highly sought after nutrient for moose in particular. Possibly the ponded areas near a bit of higher ground? Just a thought and I may be all wet:D

in reply to: "The Good Hunt" film trailer #13788Dang! I never got into hunting videos. This one I sure will! Background sound felt like a sitar kind of a vibe…heck, maybe it was:?!
in reply to: Safety Glasses #12616I misspelled nock up there….:P Anyway I would feel like a complete boob wearing safety glasses shooting a bow but wonder if there are some who “put their eye out” over the years? Particularly w wood shafts maybe??

in reply to: Grizzly hunt! #8804No. Hunting bear of any kind never appealed to me. It was always a treat to see bear sign in my area of western New England growing up. I saw my first bear print in the mud in ’73 trout fishing behind my parents place as a kid. I ran all the way home I was so excited! They are quite common there now and that says to me at least something in this world is going right. Not opposed at all, just not for me.

in reply to: Into The Wild #57877I don’t mind the ” hijacks”:D. For the record I’ m not chewing on my shoelaces or anything. Must he midlife…anyway I like to bounce stuff off this crowd. A lot of good thinkers in this tribe. Thanks for listening and responding to my little ” bellyache”
in reply to: Into The Wild #56301It’ s obvious McCandless had some issues. Who doesn’t? Seems to me if you don’t fit the status quo you get diagnosed and a label stuck on your head nice and fast. I get, that for society to survive, there must be some of that…but, too clearly, for me, I feel stuck in the ” Matrix” as a machine part. What the machine is doing to the planet is out of control. The small rebellion I’ m feeling revolves around my own accountability to a sustainable world. The issues are immense and of an evolutionary scale, but anyway, it’ s real to me and I’d like to feel I made a difference.

I got in the 25-30 yards range on whitetails quite a few times in the past, and killed two deer and my only turkey that way. Last year I stalked a napping coyote for one hour all the way to about 20, but I made one mistake, and the game was over!
I love it!!
Alex – you spurred a latent memory…as a kid I was still hunting for deer with my bow. I stepped up on a little hummock screened with small hemlocks. I looked down and inches from my feet was a sleeping coyote. A few seconds of wondering what to do and he shot forward in a low crouch and took off. I got it right that time:D
