in reply to: 1st Snake Project (pics) #18615
Thanks guys, I always learn stuff hanging around here…I was told they get a rattler every year of age and thats how you could tell.
And Troy, although green, I did wear rubber gloves each time, and thanks to you for this project as I went by one of your older posts on how to do it.
Here’s a question though….I read wear you use masking tape to remove the scales. Is this necessary to do even if i’m not planning on backing a bow with it? and will removing the scales take away from the darker pattern of the skin?
Thanks ahead!
in reply to: Tuning struggles #9854So am I understanding correctly that if you move the shelf out (right handed bow)it creates a stiffer spine?
in reply to: "The Good Hunt" links #62683Hats off to you Dave! I’m still fairly new to this traditional way but I’ve fell in love with it and feel that more would if they could just see it first hand. I dont even watch the so called “outdoor” channel anymore, but i’d love to see Traditional Bowhunter Mag or similar have a show and reveal the true qualities of bowhunting with trad equipment and to display real outdoorsmanship with not just hunts but how-to episodes and with someone such as yourself as host, not that you’d want it. Guess in this commercially driven hunting industry and mainstream media that would be a long shot, but films like these are a good start. Thanks again!
in reply to: Good Friend Gets His First! #52607Congrats to your buddy! You will never forget the first. Our season opens Oct. 1. Can’t wait! Especially with these kind of posts. Keep at em!
in reply to: I'm going to give a bow away (winner on pg3) #33600Even better Troy, put my son in the hat…Maddox Rickman, he is 5 and loves shooting his bow which is a youth wheelie. I wanted to find him a real youth recurve like mine which he has asked for over and over. This is so cool man, Thanks again. What a gift!
in reply to: I'm going to give a bow away (winner on pg3) #32643So cool!
in reply to: let go of my insert! #10381Thanks everybody, i’ll try it and see.
in reply to: who carrys a backup gun #43488Here in Mississippi, there isn’t to many critters that I feel is enough of a threat to need a backup firearm. We have hogs in certain areas but where I hunt I’ve never seen any. However, I carry a Kel-tec .380 w/ hollow points on a daily basis for most of the same reason the other posts do…dope heads and crazy people. I hope I never need it and at first I felt a little silly for carrying it everyday, but now I’ve gotten used to it and feel a little vulnerable when I dont have it with me. In this day and time, you never know when a situation will arise. Now if I were in bear/cougar/wolf country…..I’d supersize my .380 cause those are scary animals to a Mississippi boy.

If your right handed and starting to get tail right in your shots it sound like you are finally getting the right release.
Rod Jenkins, one of the best shooters in MBB series is a close friend and helped me several years ago after I did a number on my shoulder.
Once I finally started getting correct release my arrows did the same thing. Rod stated that a clean release required less spine than a sloppy release
Troy
Troy, so then what now? Do i need to jump weight up front to decrease spine. Currently i’m shooting a CX Heritage 350 with a 100gr brass insert, 75gr steel adapter and a 125 gr Eclipse head. (bow is 28@60 with my dl at 28″)I think arrows are around 29 3/4″ but are too long to start with. I want to shorten them but there again that increases spine and i really dont want to buy another set of arrows if i can help it. I thought of trying a 300gr head along w/ my 100 gr brass insert, but i’m not sure of anything anymore. Ive got analysis paralysis now to the point i’ve just about had enough. Help please! I just cant go back to compound, but i cant feel confident hunting w/ this crazy nock right flight. It’s gotta affect penetration. Thanks ahead Troy!

Out of curiosity, are you shooting with a glove? If so, are the tips in good condition? No grooves, etc?
Smithhammer, my glove is in almost new condition as i think i bought it new last year. Its a super glove. And i’ll check out Moebow’s videos, thanks for the tip.

in reply to: Checkmate bows #63270I shoot a Chekmate, and sent my riser back to lesser the grip beginning of this year and went through Chad at http://www.recurves.com for the info to get in touch with Marc, but by looking at the website recently and then on to others, Chekmate seems to be a mystery as to what went with them or getting a hold of them. Hopefully by now you can. Check with Chad from the above site, because if anybody knows anything its him. He’s an A-1 guy to deal with to and has been a Chekmate dealer for a long time, and just for my curiosity, if you succeed i’d like to know. Good luck.
in reply to: " Primitive " Bowfishing Video #32768Man, now that’s just cool!! Thanks.
in reply to: Nock-right arrow flight? #11894Troy Breeding wrote: The only other thing that I can think of that would cause nock right when you cant the bow would be feather contact with the shelf. If the nock right gets worse the more you cant it sounds like your really getting tail high kick from feathers contacting the shelf. Check your nocking point heigth with a tee square. Then move the nocking point up the string by 1/8″.
The reason I say try this is you could be pushing the limits of allowable clean shaft shooting with the bare shaft, yet once fletched your feathers are making the contact and bouncing the nock up and right.
If this is the correct fix, great. If it’s not, then you will know how much to move the nock back down the string.
Troy
Will do and thanks to you and Steve for the advise
