Thanks for the information , and good advice. I didn’t really have an opinion on short bows. other than thinking that even 60″ was pretty short compared to most traditional longbows at 64″ . I think your right , I should probably phone Ron at this point . But every bit of info helps.
in reply to: Backyard Wildlife #11427lots of mulies grazing on the hills behind the barns . The two Fox that were around last summer have shown up again .One is a red fox and one a cross fox ( mostly black) . Saw a nice big black bear up on the bench ,laying on his belly eating grass the other day . saw one today further up the slope . Might have been the same one . I was doing some fencing and sort of watching him . about 15 minutes later heard a rifle shot and saw a pickup parked up the hill . then they took off . So I was wondering , Did they shoot that bear or did they miss ? maybe there’s a wounded bear out there now . Not to point a finger at one group but some of these farmers up here really piss me off . 😡
in reply to: Happy Birthday Dave… #9039Birthday greetings from Canada ! Just finished reading “Racks” . Awesome stuff .Especially liked the Caribou Chapter.
in reply to: GFA Knives #61242You’re obviously a bad influence . I had to order one also just to see for myself 😆 We used to buy and use these little knives that had red wooden handels, and were made by Frost, in Sweden . I think they sold for about 5 buck back then . They had laminated steel blades and came in a plastic sheath .
in reply to: Backyard Wildlife #56425Looks like spring action is happening everywhere ! Shur beats watching T.V 😀 Where do you live?
in reply to: The Carbon Conundrum #54455Really any of the better carbons will work. I have a 55 # Hawk bow and have had good luck Shooting Carbon express Heritage 250s .Easton Axis 350s. and beaman Classics350s,as well as the Gold tip 5575 Traditional. They all work fine for me . I have also tried the Alaskan Grizzly stiks . But decided they were to expensive in relation to performance. You can find all of these @ three R. or Kustom king Archery. I get my CE arrows from Rocky Mt.Specialty gear . The folks at 3-R also sell test kits of the various brands .Good luck And have fun experimenting . Mike
in reply to: Shooting in the side yard. #51101Good advice George . Thanks . Just hope it doesn’t take me five decades to figure it all out. I’m not that young !
in reply to: GFA Knives #51096I was looking at those also, but I also like the ones Ron LeClair sells . Just well made simple knives.
in reply to: Wolf observation. #50988You are absolutely correct about protecting habitat . Where i grew up we had a healthy Wolf population and good moose numbers as well . We get more moose killed by the rail road in winter than all the Wolves put together. just recently a group was lobbying the gov. Because there is a policy among logging companies to De-activate roads that are no longer in us .( pulling culverts, bridges etc.) They are pissed off because their access has been limited . and they cant get into places with their ATvs and 4x4s .Jeesh!
in reply to: Shooting in the side yard. #50976Jeez ! I was just down at our archery range . I’m lucky if I hit the bale @ 50 Yds let alone the center of the target .Lol:oops:
in reply to: Backyard Wildlife #50763Was just going to add that I wish we had some of those gobblers around here . Guess I’ll take my little bow out and kill some stumps this afternoon .
in reply to: Backyard Wildlife #50759A few years back I had a job teaching over in Olds Alberta . Took a group of students up to a place called ya ha tinda Ranch , that was located up in a high plateau on the eastern slope of the Rockies . Was the only time I have ever seen Elk in numbers like you describe. That was pretty impressive! Up here in the interior of B.C we don’t see many Elk ,although there is a small heard that has established itself east of here. Have seen a couple of blackies grazing along the main Hwy. Lots of Sandhill cranes flying over .We had a pretty heavy snow pack this winter but the mule deer seem to have done alright .Haven t seen much in the way of White Tails . this is sort of marginal range for them ,and the wolves hit them pretty hard in deep snow years.
in reply to: tuning nocks #23372That was Dave’s suggestion also .good to know what brand worked for you . Probably easier than farting around with the other ones . Thanks . I’ll see what the folks at 3-R have
in reply to: tuning nocks #18461Thanks guys. Some really good ideas here. Ill Play with it and see what happens . Heating and bending seems a better option than removing material . As fare as making my own strings , that’s on the “to do ” list .:D
