in reply to: bare shaft tunning wood arrows #51464
I understand what you are saying . I have made several attempts at the bare shaft only to become frustrated .
Though I only shoot aluminum , and they are certainly heavy and stiff they fly like darts . If I maintain good shooting form and release I get perfect flight .
Most of my shooting is done in the evening . I have one area in back yard which allows a 50 yard shot ,having a dark background of white pines . My bright yellow flecthing really stands out ,and reveals no wobble in flight .
in reply to: Bow quivers #48465When I ordered the Super Kodiak in 2012 , I also ordered the FRED BEAR CUSTOM quiver ,,,,,,,,,,( don’t know about the custom part )
It has a plastic hood , which I covered with leather . It is long between hood and grippers , but can be shortened very easily.
Holds seven arrows . I keep 5 Aces and two HAMMER blunts in it all the time .
Got it from 3 rivers .
Had it a year before the gripper gave out . I found some super gummy rubber , .250 inch thick and used old gripper as pattern . NO SLIPPING DOWN NOW . ARROWS REMOVE EASY BUT I MUST APPLY A LITTLE SPIT TO GET THEM BACK IN .
in reply to: made a clean shot #47541Thanks fellers.
Just 2 weeks ago a team from one of the big name wheely bow companies dropped in on Glyn and offered him 1500 bucks for hunting rights . He turned it down.
in reply to: Pushing the limits #46335Well I’m very fortunate to have an ”OLD SCHOOL” girl for my wife . She’s ok with all my hobby’s , hunting and fishing .
BUT ! there is a line that is NOT to be crossed ,,,,,,,,,,DON’T SPEAK TO HER BEFORE SHE’S HAD HER COFFEE

in reply to: Wild Shots #44018Pretty sure it was Fred . He had on one of those coveted plaid , wool coats . Ol’ boy from up north wears RED .
Fred stops by ever so often to remind me of my slouchy style and inability to concentrate . Just wish he’d stay long enough to share my Kentucky Sour Mash an’ sit a spell.
in reply to: Wild Shots #43975I don’t recall anything ‘WILD’ recently ,,,,every shot is good right to left ,,,but always low , no matter the distance. I was blaming it on using 2 ounce arrows .
Then just a few minutes ago , while stumpin’ ’round the yard ,,,,THIS BIG MAN WITH A HAIRED OVER UPPER LIP RAN OUT FROM HIS HIDIN’ SPOT IN AMONG THE WHITE PINES AND SLAPPED ME UP SIDE THE WHITE HAIRS ! HE SHOUTED ” PUSH N PULL !!!!! . Then he dissappeared into the pines again.
So I regain control and did like he said ,,,,Hmmm it worked .Took several more shots and none were low .
Evidently the pain in my left elbow was causing me to stop pushing .
One other thought , THAT OL’ BOY THAT SLAPPED ME LOOKED A LOT LIKE THE FELLER ON THE COVER OF ”INTINCTIVE SHOOTING II”.

Same thing happened last week here in Ohio.
Great subject and fine comments.
During the hottest days of last summer I would wait till after sundown to shoot , so I didn’t expose the bow to too much heat . Would do the one arrow thing ,,,,stumping fashion , in the yard , one shot, then return back inside the house where the AC has me spoiled . 30 minutes later would repeat, and so on till too dark .
This really helped me in consistency .
Having degenerative disc disease and arthritis I find that anytime I attempt to stick more than two consecutive arrows in the foam target my group will fall apart on the third arrow . Like others ,,stumping does me more good ,,,and only use one arrow. Sometimes 5 shots ,,,sometimes 25. If the first few are spot on I’ll quit .
I generally have a small brushpile out back . Taking shots at elevated targets , like the dried up maple leaves on the brushpile edge and even a tennis ball size pear hanging on the limb is one way of mixing more type shots into practice. The 250 grain Hammer is very impressive on pears . Kinda like the 17HMR and a can of coke .
in reply to: String Leeches Vs. Beaver Balls #50071I too agree with D.P.’s statement. When I get sloppy on my release ,,,,generally a result of not maintaining full concentration on the target,,,it sounds like two bows being shot at the same time , without any silencers,,,HORRIBLY LOUD and very annoying. But , when all is done properly only a thump sound ,,, which is still too loud in my opinion.
great thread !
in reply to: I just bought my first longbow. #23176Was hoping to witness your shooting ,,,,,,,,,,,absolutley hilarious video .
Have you shot the new bow yet ?
in reply to: Spalted Maple Bow #13056As the rest have said , beautiful! Nice shooting too. I also like the way you made the riser with an even BALANCE to the shape ,,,,,,,,,,NICE!
To my eye too many longbows are made unattractive by their oddly shaped handle/riser. Probably doesn’t effect shooting though.
Your bow is both beautiful in its wood and shape.
in reply to: 40 yards, Kodiak Mag, elevated rest. #13043Very impressive Mr. Stout .
I actually got a twinge of anxiety ,anticipating that first arrow coming straight at me .
Many years ago I used elevated rests too . I too generally cant between 1-2 o’clock .
Good shooting !!!

in reply to: Matter of Balance #63768I think that tops anything I’ve seen ,,,,,,,,,,,,and I’ve been to town a time or two.
