Just my 2¢. I believe monkey tails are more for compounds than traditional bows. I am no expert, but I think they would have a negative impact on arrow speed, or they just don’t do as good a job as (like stated above) some yarn. Maybe the manufacturer has info?

        Wolf,

Wow, that sounds like an awesome plan. One of the best hunting trips I have had was hogs near Okichobee. I was using rifle. Wanted to go back for archery but kept putting it off. How are the farmers in Ft. Meyers about allowing people on to help with hogs, especially with archery? Would love to hear some stories. Let me know.

        Good luck to all,

Actually, I can save you a few quid. It’s available on Netflix instant video (might be on amazon prime too). Got through the first 30 min or so. Had to go and never got back to it. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll watch it tomorrow (worked the weekend, so I am off Tuesday, so Monday is a “Late” night).

Right now, 10 yards under perfect conditions. 15-20 at smaller game (hit a rabbit with a blunt, it’s going down, not so if you miss vitals on a deer). It’s fortunate for me that with the brush and undergrowth in most spots here in Southeastern PA, I usually won’t get a further shot from the ground. Tree stands are a different story, but I don’t hunt them often. Being so new to trad gear, I really limit myself to those parameters. Thing is, I am not at all good at judging distance, so that is pretty much my limit there as well. I hope to someday get out to 25-30 yards, especially if I am going to plan a trip west for Elk.

Thank you all for the advice. I contacted Elmer Patton, at Crow Creek Bows with the issue. He agreed about the string length and sent me out a new string. I made all the adjustments and it is a world of difference. Everything works (the shooter, not so much). So it’s time to get out and practice. Antlerless opens in 3 weeks in my area, and general archery in 5. Thanks again for all the help and thanks to Mr. Patton for the great customer service.

Permission to hunt private property was not that difficult to get around here. Most people here are not against hunting, and they appreciate wildlife being managed on their property, especially for archery. BUT… Then we had an incident in my area some years ago that changed all of that. A hunter let go a stray bullet which wound up hitting a pregnant woman in her her. Fortunatelly she and the baby both survived, but in the lawsuit that followed, it was not only the hunter that was sued, but also the landowner. I have heard conflicting stories as to the outcome (and have not bothered to look), but that scared many landowners in this area. I have seen many more “No Trespassing” signs after that. Now, you either have to know someone REALLY WELL, or hunt private land. It’s a shame, but this is the reason we need to police ourselves. The actions of ONE “bad apple” can have a snowball effect on all of us.

                  :)skifrk,

Thanks for the idea. I use 2-blade broadheads, so I should be good for now. I don’t really do any stalking, so I would probably have this next to me on the ground or in a tree. Still I may try the PVC tubes. Depending on how this pans out, I may look to upgrade in a season or two. Thanks again for the tip.

Wow. That sounds like a fantasy world to me. Back here in south-eastern PA, there are few options, especially if you don’t have permission to hunt private land. I have permission to hunt on a farm in my area, and a buddy who has some deer near his house up north. I have an antlerless permit for may area and my buddy’s. Otherwise, hope to see a buck. Not sure how many times I’ll get out, but I’ll be there every chance I get. Antlerless archery opens 9/15 in my area. State-wide archery (antlered or antlerless) opens 9/29. Until then, practice, practice, practice. Saving up to try to get out west for Elk next year.

                      Nate,

I agree, but if we ain’t complainin’, we ain’t trainin’. 😆 I really feel for all those away from their families, and all those who have been injured. It’s easy to forget about how lucky we truly are and how bad it could be. Just important to keep up the support. As I drive around, I notice far fewer flags and yellow ribbons. I know that doesn’t mean that people stopped caring, but showing those overseas that we still think about them (like this thing Robin got the word out on) are, in my opinion, real important.

                      Be well,

Just an update, I got the pack in the mail and I must say, I got my money’s worth. Definitely has enough room for everything I need on a hunt. The quiver part of it is not super, but ok for what I need. The quiver is just a slot with a piece of reinforced padding. Getting arrows in and out is a bit noisy. Also, if you shoot 3-blade broadheads, this pack will not work. Otherwise, it is something to carry my stuff to the stand, hang it up or put it next to me, remove and nock an arrow and access things as needed. Did I mention $30? I’ll let you know how it holds up during the season.

No experience what-so-ever. Just an idea. How do you think tape or shrink-wrap would work?

I’m not sure if this is what R2 was referring to in his tip, but you can go to the drug store and pick up some Coban. It is self adhesive, meaning it sticks to itself, not whatever you are wrapping. I have seen rolls of the stuff in sporting goods stores in camo pattern but at more than twice the cost. I would just wrap a layer on your limbs and riser and give it a try. If it works, use a marker to make your own pattern. Some spots or stripes should do the trick. One thing you should remember is that if you hunt in the rain, you will want to unwrap the Coban as it will retain moisture. Hope this helps.

This whole thread was a great read. Anyone ever think of getting together and writing a book of short stories? Or at least making it a new section in TBM? Just a thought. One day I hope to have my own story. BTW, I really wonder about the gar. That just seems TOO intelligent for a dinosaur.

Sounds like a fun day all around. Did active duty switch to dress blues yet or is it still Class A’s? I have been meaning to look up hog hunting down south. If the TV is to be believed (not a good idea, I know), the south is teaming with hogs and ranchers are willing to let anyone take all they can handle. I was wondering if you partake or if you have heard of anything down there. I didn’t get a chance to check out the surroundings last time I was at Fort Sam (too many nights at Camp Bullis). Speaking of, there are some nice deer there, just have to watch out for UXO. 😆 Hope all is well.

I feel for you buddy. Sept. 29th is opening of Archery here in PA and I am on a bus for Fort Drum for a mandatoryBA. Have to do SRP. Sometimes I wonder myself. Oh well. I knew about it before I joined.
