in reply to: I want to scream #13886
If you could kill a critter at 50 yards, there would be 2 deer in my freezer. Since I know my own limitations no arrow was shot. I can’t believe people can practice at 30 feet and think they can hit something at 50 yards.
in reply to: Elk Tracking #13870Looked like cow tracks to me. No elk here.
Went backpacking in the late ’90s (after 10 years raising a kid) and kept seeing “cow tracks”. Wondered “Why are cows up here?” Then I saw a Moose. Scared the Scat out of me. In the ’70s when I did a lot of backpacking there were no Moose.
in reply to: Why would my upper limb snap? #11124Remember when you were pregnant and they said “If you knew how many things that could go wrong, you would be surprised it ever came out right.” Same goes for making bows, and a lot of other things in life. Doesn’t take much of a mistake to cause a bow to break, and the guys that made it know that, or should.
in reply to: Why would my upper limb snap? #11122When that has happened on the bows I have made, it always turned out to be something wrong with the glue or the way I glued/clamped it. I would take it back.
in reply to: Now that it's over #60649No hogs here.
Planning to get the girls out on the snowshoes, so I can watch them fall down. But we need snow for that, no snow, just cold for now.
Be nice if I could figure out what I did wrong, and do something about it. I was thinking about it in church the other day, and remembered how Mom would jam her elbow into me every time I moved. Thinking I might still be having a problem sitting still.
in reply to: Last PA bow hunt #56841Season is over and I have 2 unfilled tags. No venison. The deer are out there laughing at me as they dance in the moonlight. Sad part is that I don’t know what
I did wrong. Perhaps nothing. Not surprised as the odds are against me. BUT by next year I’ll “know” exactly what I did wrong and go out there convinced that I will fill the two tags, and fill the freezer. BTW in a few months I’ll be catching record breaking trout and bass. Not sure if fly fishermen and archers are out of tune with reality, or just incredibly optimistic.
Arwen and I went out yesterday, in the snow and cold (just couple inches of snow – good tracking, easy walking). Saw deer tracks, pee, poops, beds and browsing, along with tracks of all the other critters out there. Mouse tracks were a big hit. Had a great time. If she had stopped talking we might have seen deer!!

in reply to: Back stops #47456How about a couple old doors, and the broad side of a barn?
Not cheap frugal!!

She shoots daily, weather permitting, and has talked about a spot light…
in reply to: Free Class on Land Ethics #44557…and Audrey is off to get a bottle of wine, and a shoe.
in reply to: They are Really HERE!! #44537And after you spend all of that time money, and risk… If you get one they smell like a goat!!
in reply to: Free Class on Land Ethics #44531Got a copy of Sand County Almanac for Christmas!! This is perfect!
in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #44528$1,000 sounds a god awful lot to spend on a bow, but… Those of us who build our own never really know just how much the dang thing cost. Especially if you include the labor (all of the time thinking about it when someone else wants our attention), and redesigning living space to accommodate the “hobby”.
in reply to: camo paint removal #34047Painter here. Removing paint tends to be a all or nothing thing, Acetone will dissolve plastic, and polyurethane IS a plastic. Try the Goof Off first, it is less dangerous. If the camo paint is latex, you could try a LITTLE heat, like a hair dryer. If you do use acetone or other paint removers, be conservative, put it on for a few mins, then wipe. It may come off. On the other hand, its not that hard to varnish a bow.
