in reply to: poll on release #31055
I started out with split. But I started have problems with my ring finger plucking the string so I switched to 3 under and the problem went away. I can not say I have noticed any difference in noise from my bow.
in reply to: Chain saw in a can #31041I have never used one but I always figured it would not work to well because it takes 2 hands to run the saw. That means you would have be cutting either a branch that was heavy enough to stay put due to it weight or only ones attached to the tree still. Not to handy for making fire wood.
in reply to: What's in your daypack? #29918I always tell our students in our Hunter Ed classes the best thing to have in your pack is a deck of cards. When you are lost sit down and deal out a hand of Solitaire. Before you are done some SOB will walk up behind you and tell you to put the black Jack on the red Queen. Then all have to do is follow him back to his truck.
in reply to: String Serving Too Thick? #26678That used to be my test also until I started down the EFOC path, 450 grains of point and insert upfront a slight bump and they fall free.
in reply to: String Serving Too Thick? #25615I always preferred my nocks a little on the tight side. Early on in my hunting career I think I picked a dozen broad head tipped arrows out of the dirt under my stand. As long as it is not splitting the nocks in the cold I figured it was not to tight. My shooting ability has never been good enough to notice any negative effects from too tight of nock.
in reply to: Awesome EFOC Idea Im working on #23384I did something similar for my son years ago. I tapped a 8/32 tread all the way through the insert. I then got some brass rod and threaded it for 8/32 we then cut them to 2 inches and locktited them into place. We then screwed a 125 field point on the front. He then put them on my gain scale and tuned each one by filing off the end of the brass rod. when he was done he had 12 perfectly matched points. He still has about 6 of them I forget what weight he was after.
Ausjim, Your advice on the how to was spot on. IMHO I only asked what his goal was to find out which path he was taking. I have seen a great may archers suffer from heavybowitis for years after dropping weight when they realized with age that it is not size that matters but how you use it.
in reply to: Best way to tune for wood arrows? #11576Timbow the path you have chosen is not rocket science but does involve math. Wood arrow spine in figured at 28″ draw. You listed 25″ rule of thumb is you gain 3 Lbs of spine weight for each inch shorter than 28″. But that does not factor point weight or bow shelf design. I would start with some 30/35’s for a self bow or 35/40’s for a center shot handle type. Also wood type and quality of release will make for a interesting project for you. Have fun and keep us posted on your progress. And understand the information given here is the Cliff Notes of the Readers Digest version.
Welcome Red, I guess I would like to know your definition of heavy and why you feel you need to increase your draw weight? All most all of the people I shoot with are using bows in the 45 to 50 lb range. I am considered a neanderthal for still shooting 60 lbs. I guess the only reason I have for still shooting 60 is because that what my bow is and I still can. Another website has a group called the heavy bow society for my age I would have to shoot 80 lbs to qualify. So you see heavy has a different meaning for different people.
in reply to: an about time article #10015jgilmer, what many fail to realize is that in a court room the judge rules and he can apply what ever punishment he see fit. Even in a jury trial he can rule against the jury. There for if he feels that the fine is excessive he can reduce it to what ever he wants.
in reply to: an about time article #8751The other problem in MN is after they get ticket for baiting they go to court and the judge either throws it out or only fines them 50.00. Why because a deer ate his garden and he wants all deer dead.
in reply to: too much time in the woods? #64068What size boot do your wear Clay? If it is a 12 or larger you better be careful there be people a looken for you!!!
in reply to: trail cameras #61368I have the regular Cuddie not the infrared model. Both units have to flash at night to get a picture. The regular one gives you color photo’s at night infrared just gets you black and white. I usually have the camera set on a 30 second delay between photos and have had many multiple shots of the same deer. It takes nice clear pictures. Battery life great in warm weather fair in cold.
in reply to: What kills WI deer? #60208It seems according to this study in WI. that W@#ves do not even rate #1 in the 4 legged predator category. I know they get the most press and credit around here for deer numbers being down. It looks like the numbers do not seem to support the claims. To bad we can’t get past our Red Riding Hood fears from childhood.
