All things being equal includes length, right? dwc
in reply to: Let's See Your Fletching #22684Steve, that’s an interesting point. I have moved my fletching as far back as i can, thinkng it would add to stability, not considering the interference I might be introducing to the mix. Thanks for pointing that possibility out. Much appreciated. Best dwc
in reply to: Amazing: My son's new Java Man Archery Helms Deep #19714They look like string slugs. I put them on my longbow and they work well. I forget where i got them but somebody on here recommended them. What the static tip? Dwc
in reply to: Can I get a recommendation? #19673Merino wool it is, with one add on. I have a couple sets of thin silk shirt and pants. This is the base layer and it adds several degrees of comfort, not to mention how sexy it is in camp! ??

All the best, david
in reply to: Cold Weather Gloves #17170I just cut the fingers in them, leaving the backs just a little longer for any added protection. I’ll try to shoot with them later today. thanks! d
in reply to: Garbaging for Bears #16981I think Fallguy pretty much reiterated my feelings about this. Sure, it’s a common thing to bait bears where it is difficult or, as some put it, impossible to hunt them, but is it hunting? Really hunting? I’m in the Poconos, NE Pennsylvania. We have a lot of bears here and some of the biggest in the world, thanks to ready availability of bird feeders and dumpsters, as well as good natural fool sources. Even with a healthy populations of bears, I very rarely see one in the woods. Bears have keen senses and are a tough animal to find, even if they are the biggest animal in the woods here. The traditional way of hunting bears here is to put on drives in swamps. Guys I know are now watching known trails and water sources. I think there’s a lot too it, but that makes it more of a hunt, not a reason to try to make it easier. If I do get a bear license in the future, I’ll be sure to know the odds are that I’m looking at a lot of good days in the woods, not a lot of filled tags.
I really want to say, “to each his own,” but I have trouble with this one. It just doesn’t seem right. It sure doesn’t seem like hunting. Best, dwc
in reply to: Cold Weather Gloves #16942I have my American Leather handwarmer gloves in the X-xx size and they fit very nice. I have not cut the fingers for my Duraglove yet, but it should be fine. These gloves are really well made with fairly long cuffs. The cuffs do not have elastic in them, so there’s no blood flow restriction. Very soft, very warm. best, dwc
in reply to: Practice for Form #16525Kavanaugh makes some good videos. I’ve enjoyed a bunch. I think he knows what he’s doing. Dwc
in reply to: Let's See Your Fletching #16519Smithhammer,
While i was making primitive arrows for my Webelos’ Arrow of Light i made a remark to my buddy who shoots a selfbow and has been studying arrows for some years. I said if the arrows weren’t perfect it was fine as i wanted them to look primitive. He chuckled and said those natives who probably spent hours and whole days making their arrows paid very close attention to the details of there arrows. Afterall, their lives depended on them. Interesting point i thought. Dwc

in reply to: What ya got goin? #16349Wow look at the size o them dawgs! Seriously, pretty country. How the heck would you sneak up on those. They look like they are ready to bounce. Have hunted them and how successful were you? Dc
in reply to: A cautionary tale (in pictures) #15713That’s a beauty. Glad it wasn’t worse. A couple of school mates were shooting one of the guys bows when we were kids. The target kept falling down, so, yep, they took turns sitting behind the target to hold it up. One guys leaned around the target to announce that he wasn’t ready yet and got smacked just on the outside of the eye socket. The arrow deflected outward and he was alright. Just a “dummy” for life. Scary stuff. I’m glad you son was no worse for the wear. best, dwc
in reply to: Let's See Your Fletching #15337Mine are oriented the same and I haven’t noticed anythjng odd. But then, i can shoot a three feather with the cock against the bow and I don’t see much change. Maybe it’s testimony to mt overall need for improvement! Dwc
in reply to: Longbow shot while sitting #13118R2, that’s a great series of archery demonstrations. Thanks for posting. dwc
