Good luck with your new start. Search the thread on archery books and follow that guy Steve Graf. He’s a nice guy and probably as steeped in know-how as anyone active on this site. Also search Troy Breedings advice on tuning arrows. There’s volumes of knowledge on this site. If you can’t find something just ask. The price is right. Best, dwc
in reply to: Re-Thinking old Thoughts on Woodies #13686I only have two things I’d like to chime in with. One is that straight fletch makes an arrow spin plenty. So helical might be applying additional torque that just have some hidden effects on the shaft. Just a thought.
Never mind the second thought. Dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #13325Great analogy. love it, d
in reply to: What ya got goin? #13286Beautiful, Alex. Really stunning. I didn’t get to Whittingham this year. I ended up with work Friday and family plans on Saturday. I looked you up on youtube and have been enjoying some of your music. Great to see your post. best, dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #12712Yes, judos are dependent on your set up. I’m able to put 125 adapter and 100 inserts into match my hunting rig. That’s all because I’m shooting carbons. D
in reply to: What ya got goin? #12668I tried the hex head style once. Granted, I shot into a frozen stump, but they were so hard on the arrows I took them off immediately. The head did not sink into the stmp at all, just bounced right back. All the energy went back into the arrow. I was shooting aluminum at the time and they made like an accordian on the first shots. I think I shot two and destroyed two. Small game? I bet they’d be great. Give me judos for stumping anyday. A friend just rounds off the heads of field points and that works well for him, too. The judos shoot straight and I usually get months out of each one.
I also used to carry pliers to grab the heads to pull them out of the stumps. I don’t bother with that so much now that I’m shooting carbons. Best, dwc
in reply to: Let's See Your Fletching #12433Beauties. We usually get to see a stump at the other end, too. Nice work, dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #10557Nice spots you guys have to hunt dead wood. Beautiful. Been stumping just a little and a little bit of form work most days. Took a dip in the creek this afternoon with my son. Didn’t take long at all to get the full effect. Sorry, no pics of me in a speedo. Dwc
in reply to: Mitten's article in the current TBM #7723Smithhammer, good story, good point.
Eidsvolving, get real! If you ain’t jumping out of a tree with a sharp stick in you hand….
in reply to: Mitten's article in the current TBM #63612Cheers back at ya. Excellent bunch here. Best, dwc
in reply to: Mitten's article in the current TBM #63600Back from the fishing hijack, I just read the article. I don’t see any problem with his process. It sure seems true. It’s a shame he experienced criticism for his choices, although I’m not sure who would criticise for being picky and intense in his choice. I’m sure you can find someone easy enough. I did find myself distracted by Mitten defending his choice. Possibly, without some clarification he might come off as elitist, but I don’t see it that way. A little insecure about it for some reason, maybe. He certainly shouldn’t be. In the end I see two stories wrapped together. One about fine hunts with specific, ethical intentions and process, and the other about the defense of something that is well within the bounds of “to each his own. “
There is evidence of benefit for taking both a young buck and to letting bucks grow older, for the good of the herd. If it’s for the good of the herd, it’s for the good of the hunter, too.
Like Steve said. Go hunting, be happy. Peace, dwc
in reply to: Mitten's article in the current TBM #63556R2, one of my all time favorites poles was a screw together cane pole my dad bought me on a trip South when I was a kid. Kids back home were amazed. Had a blast catching tons of sunnies and shiners. Dc
in reply to: mount and align broadheads: a how to vid #62521Grump, don’t you mean, if there’s a wiggle in the butt…?
I shoot 3 x 4 and when one fearher came off an arrow it flew quite well with three feather. For fun, I removed another to leave two opposing. It flew great. When one of the remainders got scraped off, it flew crazy. It would be better to shoot it bare shaft at that point. Dwc
in reply to: Mitten's article in the current TBM #62199I haven’t read the article yet, but plan to. In response to Smithhammer’s post here, it seems to me for many years that anytime you get any given group of people together, a portion of them are going to be critical. Often, there’s reason to be critical. There’s probably some phd paper that has quantified the percentages on this, but who know, maybe I’m the one off base. Regular self-examination is part of the keeping percentages low trail, as we all can be susceptible if we don’t watch out. And, by the way, that last comment isn’t aimed at anyone in particular, unless it’s me. Thanks, dwc
