My first jig was a jo-jan and it worked just fine. It was a multi-spot jig that I didn’t have use for, as I use tape instead of glue. dwc

        Hey Squirrel,

I’m using a BPE jig with a straight clamp and fletching tape. A drop of Beyond Bond up front and to the rear to keep it in place and you’re good. I’m too impatient for glue, not to mention I’d have it all over the place with my fumble fingers. I know there’s one guy on this site with a pretty good reputation that uses the most inexpensive jig out there with fine results. You just have to pick what you like and have some fun. dwc

          Troy,

Thanks for the note. I’m sure not asking Doc to do anything, as he’s already working his butt off for the like of me.

Smithhammer, thanks for your input. I have 4 inch shields on now and some parabolics to try, too.

          Much appreciated. dwc

Beauty, thanks. I’ll recheck that thread also. Maybe we can get Doc to put this all compiled in his library…. in his “spare time…”

Hunting season is basically over here for me, so the fun continues in further refining my arrows. dwc

              Hi Scout,

Thanks. I’m taking another look at that thread. I’m starting at the top now. Much appreciated. dwc

                Dave & Fletcher,

Thanks for your notes. I’ll dig a little more. I’ve run across the info before and did a little testing myself. I cut some four and three inch shields to an A&A style and they flew great. I just got in some four inch parabolics to try, too.

I don’t mind the digging and reading, I just wondered if there was a compilation of the information in the Ashby Library that I was missing.

Also, is there a story in the archives about OL ?

Gotta chime in. Excellent work, on both videos. Ditto on the shadow, but really that’s small potatoes and an easy fix. Terrific choice of music. Also, congratulations on the bear. Fine shot ending in the recovery we hope for.

                    Troy,

That makes perfect sense. I have a couple of those straps, so I’ll look for a large clip that’s easy to handle with gloves on. Thanks for the tip. dwcphoto

                      Dave,

I saw the lone wolf and gorillas on 3River. Look under tree stands, then accessories. http://www.3riversarchery.com/Treestands+Blinds+Treestand+Accessories++Lone+Wolf+Tree+Climbing+Sticks_c60_s176_p0_i5505X_product.html

                        Hi Dave,

I bought a set used a few years back and have yet to use them. The dang things are cumbersome. I have not gotten rid of them as I might be setting up on state land some time and need them. I used the screw in steps and when I return to a tree I usually have a hard time finding the holes. The holes are not really drilled out, but sort of forced apart, so they seal up pretty well. I photographed a state forester one time who was measuring champion trees in our area. He drilled a core sample of an ancient oak and I asked him about leaving the tree vulnerable to insects or disease. He said the tree heals itself quite well and if you look closely, you’ll see plenty of places for bugs to get in if they want to. A lot of bugs apparently only go after dead wood anyway, which is why you don’t see a lot of local politicians in the woods around here!!

Anyway, ramble cut off time. 3Rives has some nice strap on steps. They cost plenty, but it’s like most things I’m sure… good luck, dwcphoto

                            Steve,

I like your second sentence. Maybe, but interesting. This discussion reminds me of a trip I took to Mexico City trying to chase down a job. I found that I knew enough Spanish to ask questions, but didn’t know enough Spanish to understand the answers.

I do enjoy the discussions. dwc

Question for you two mathematicians. I wonder about the question of how slow you can launch an arrow and still have it be effective. At a certain point the arrow just won’t get there. If you shoot an arrow at a distance you have to increase the arch to get it there. As long as the blades are sharp and the arrow has sufficient mass it seems it should work. Nobody wants to stand under an arrow falling out of the sky, even one that’s falling only with the force of its own weight. dwc

                                Steve,

One more thing I like about the safari tuff is that there is a rain hood that is detachable. I don’t use it unless the weather looks bad, as it does stick up a bit higher, but it’s handy to have.

That leather one sure is nice looking. dwc

                                  Hi Joe,

A question about your momentum chart. I have not chronographed my arrow, so I just wild guessed at a speed, 150, and entered my arrow weight 560g, and got .373. So what does that mean?? Is that somewhere in an Ashby report?

Thanks for the calculator. They really help.

                                  Troy,

Someday they’ll make a honeycomb shaft with a smooth skin filled with helium to help you get up to about 75%. We’ll really hear the cork pop then!
