in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133601
That’s pretty tough. I never tried footing. I did try hex heads a couple of times and they just destroyed the shaft. Judos sink in a bit and these things just bounce back. I bet they’re great for small game though. dwc
in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133552I did something similar to your set up. 50 gr inserts, 225 tuffheads, 75 gr adapters, 300 grain field points, and for stumpers, 100 gr inserts, 125 gr adapters and judos, with collars fore and aft. Makes a very durable stumper, but dang hard to pull out sometimes. They will snap if I side swipe a tree, especially a sapling. They seem to pretty consistently snap off clean about 3 1/2 inch from the head.
in reply to: Longbow Problem #133551You’d think the string slowly unwound. Maybe try measuring it to see how it compares. Interesting. I wonder if the string was too short and didn’t have many twists in it to keep it together. Dwc
in reply to: Cock feather #133550I’ve been shooting four fletch for a few years now. As I remember you shoot the cock feather out for clearance, so that tiny bit of a bump isn’t hitting the riser. Maybe that’s where the center shot comes in, as the arrow doesn’t have to wrap around the bow so much. The main reason is that’s the way it’s always been done, ha!
in reply to: Old photos #133549That’s an excellent photo idea. I’ve been sharpening my edges so I’ll see what I can do to make that happen. I have to say I’m much happier behind the camera. Dwc
in reply to: Old photos #133504Hi Folks, I trust you all had a terrific Labor Day! I want to thank Robin and Co. for the new hat. It’s a beauty and it actually fit without adjustment right out of the box.
There’s one thing the blind squirrel doesn’t get credit for, persistence! Thank you very much! David
Hey Ralph, best wishes with that stone. Had a beauty myself one time. Too big to pass so they beat it to pieces. Felt like Bruce Lee smacking me with a broom stick for an hour. Ha! The good times.
Every now and then I get the itch to try three under, then I end up dry firing the bow when the arrow slips out. I know I could fix that, but I go back to improving what I’m used to. I do enjoy watching the folks shoot bullseyes at the Lancaster event on utube. Lot of respect for that level of skill. Best, dwc
in reply to: Old photos #133373Jim, in that last series, the next to the last, the fellow is shooting three fingers under, which is what many barebow target archers use today, except with a much higher anchor.
R2, great shots. Love these old photos. dwc
in reply to: Return to traditional archery and bow hunting. #133352I’m looking forward to reading about your successful hunt, with or without a kill. Enjoy your travels and campfires. Best, dwc
in reply to: Books for Traditional Bowhunters #133324Here’s one I found a few years ago. dwc
in reply to: Old photos #133311The fact that I’m guessing is well established, so I’ll try one more. Bob Lee?
in reply to: Old photos #133300That R2?
in reply to: Old photos #133293Yeah, I went for Pope because of the tie. Maybe Robin will give the hat to the one with the most guesses…
in reply to: Old photos #133281okay , then Saxton Pope or Steve Graf!
