in reply to: All these new bows,, guess I better show mine #41162
Troy,
That’s a beauty! I was wondering the other day if Black Locust would make a bow. I have a ton of it here that was blown down in storms last year. It makes a great firewood I can attest to that. dwc

That’s a beaut! Enjoy the process and good shooting! dwc
in reply to: Getting in shape #39956I’d like to run, but my running style or lack of is a punishment. So I spend time walking in the woods, stumping. I also try to keep a routine of pushups and work with the bowfit. That’s a great exercise tool and it packs for travel as needed, too. I also split all my firewood with a six pound maul. All that helps me try to keep up with the kids. dwc
Sinawalli,
Saying you haven’t lived would be a stretch, but it’s a great time and a great way to practice woods shots. Depending on how you want to challenge yourself, you can always find thickets and branches to shoot through to really get to know how much your arrow arcs on the way to the target. It’s great practice, but it’s mainly great fun. have fun, dwc
in reply to: Eastern Trad Archery Rendezvous #33410Depending on work, I might take a run out on that Friday. It’s a bit of a drive for me, too, but I don’t think four hours. It’s a big show from what I understand. I might give it a try. If I go I’ll make a post saying so and we might be able to do a shoot together. all the best, david
Yep, just checked. About 3.5 hours. Maybe. I’d probably do a day trip and burn the candle. dwc

in reply to: Eastern Trad Archery Rendezvous #32365ColMike,
If you are in PA, here’s good organization and a list of their shoots. There’s also the Whittingham shoot 20 miles into New Jersey. Their trad shoot was a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t make it, but have gone a couple of times and it’s a really nice event. Here’s the PA Longbow Assoc. link. http://www.palongbow.com/schedule.php
best, david
in reply to: Feral Hogs Make the NY Times #30847Hi Alex,
I’ve heard of the place. I’m just north of you in the Poconos. There’s a high fence deer hunt just over the hill, but I have not heard of hogs in there yet. Don’t want them. dwc
in reply to: I just bought my first longbow. #29575That’s great. Good luck with the bow, too! dwc
in reply to: The Election Buck #25841Hey Alex,
That’s a beauty. I love it that it isn’t pretty in the typical sense. More character, more beauty. One to remember. Congratulations, dwc
in reply to: Whittingham Shoot #25239Alex, did you make it to Whittingham? I ended up staying home as my daughter was home from school not feeling well. The other shoot I would have gone to was last weekend at Leon Stewart’s club the West Caln Sportsman’s Club. That’s a nice shoot, too, near Coatesville, Pa. If you went, you had a good day for it, although it was a bit windy here early in the day. dwc
in reply to: Fred Bears Memories of the Hunt. #25233Beautiful work! dwc
in reply to: Fred Bears Memories of the Hunt. #24824Would love to see it, too. If you are sizing in photoshop try lowering the compression rate to about 7 when you do the save as. That seems to work well for me. dwc
