For me, same set-up as last year. Yep, same ol’ boring thing, except that I think I’m shooting it better. I’m pretty convinced I’m a one-bow guy for quite a while anyway.

Leon Stewart Slammer Special R/D Longbow, 46# @ 28. Beman ICS Bowhunter 400s, cut just under 30″ with 50 grain brass inserts, 75 grain steel adapters and 225 grain Tuffheads for a total of 625 grain. I’m using 2 1/2 x 4 straight fletch and I’m getting about 28% FOC.

I have 300 grain field tips and built up stumpers with 100 grain inserts and 100 grain adapters and 135 grain (give or take) Judos.

Some great times. Good idea for a thread Smithy. You have some beautiful country to hunt. We don’t open here in PA until Oct. 5, except for a few southern areas.

There’s a quote in a movie, All That Jazz, I believe, from years ago. The quote was by a circus performer who said something to the effect of, Life is on the wire, the rest is waiting. In one aspect of my life, it’s either deer season or getting ready for deer season. dwc

For the most part, my bad shots are much closer to my good shots, but I had a doozy last week. First shot of the morning and it went crazy. Missed the bale completely and went through the weeds and grass. I still haven’t had the heart to go looking for it. I’m convinced I’ll need a shovel for this one. dwc

That file method sounds like the one to try. I use a simple cut off wheel on a dremel. I measure and mark the shaft with a sharpie and then cut it just a bit long. Spinning the shaft slowly in my fingers I butt the shaft into the dremel to make a nice square end at the proper length. It’s been working fine for me for a few years now. dwc

Whose quote is it? I can’t imagine a day without crows. Yesterday, coming home from the early morning dog walk/stumping session, a few crows hollered our arrive back home. Later that afternoon, during an afternoon wedding, a crow called and swooped down the ridge behind the ceremony. That moment was as sacred as any for me. You can always count on crows when nothing else will lend a sound. dwc

Yes, it’s pretty cool. I’ve seen it happen on smaller impacts, but nothing like this one. I cut a small Hemlock branch off once and arrow went on to hit the mark I was going for. This one was like slow motion. I wish I had it on video, too. thanks, d
