in reply to: Caught with my pants down… #35122
Jim,
Great pics and hope you get one of those piggies. Now, in the first pic of the wallaby I think I’m seeing a turkey-like bird in the upper left corner of the pic. What bird is that or am I just seeing things?

in reply to: Quiet this recurve…. #23860Agree that experimenting with brace height even if slightly different than the min/max helps. I’ve found that with silencer materials, no matter what the type, more is not necessarily better. I have gotten best results by trimming mine down and moving them up or down the string helps with arrow flight and with noise.
in reply to: Lost Season, Maybe Worse #23850Good luck with your surgery and hope you have a speedy recovery, Don!

Smithy,
The Thunderchild and the Super Shrew are the bows for this season. I think I could actually let the rest go and be happy. Well, might have to keep my Big 5 and the Hoyt TD, but only 4 bows? I think I could. And then there’s the…. Nah. 😀

in reply to: Dream Hunts #62504Elk and caribou have always been a dream but hogs and javelina are probably more likely to happen. To some, just getting to hunt anything is a dream. So when I get to go I’m very thankful that I can.
in reply to: New Buffalo Bow #61363Beautiful bow Tailfeather. Love Big Jim’s work.

in reply to: How's the hunting? #61356Double post? 😳
in reply to: How's the hunting? #61355Things finally settling down. Hope to get in the woods this weekend. The Thunderchild and the Shrew are ready, just pick one and go. Ground hunting seats, ready. I think NCBA is having the annual Butner Game Land bow hunt this week end, but not sure. Lots of options for public land even without having scouted first. May be able to catch up on scouting on Sunday.

I’ve been out twice. Plenty of moose and bear sign, but scant evidence of whitetails on those forays. That was mostly my fault, I was too obstinate in my choice of location to go where the acorns are heaviest. 🙄 Next time will be different.
Me too! I raked up a 5 gallon bucket full last week end and they are still falling. I’ll put them back out this winter when the critters need them.
in reply to: My Version of Duncan's Quiver #55726Good job! I also piece together scraps to make quivers. Great for making two tone quivers and other gear.
in reply to: Killed one #53407Good job! Were you on the ground or in a tree?
in reply to: Assumptions and Biases #38418Thanks Smithy,
I’ve been talking with a guy about hunting some public land near his home and I know he is a compound shooter. He invited me to come over and go with him, even offering the use of stands he has set up. I figured he probably did not remember that I had told him before that I was all Trad so I reminded him of that and it did not seem to bother him and I don’t mind him using a c-bow although I do worry a bit over the things that Dave said especially when getting to know someone new. But interestingly, he seemed have more concern over the fact that I am a ground hunter when I asked if he minded if I stayed on the ground. He responded with a very somber: “you can’t kill deer with a bow from the ground can you?” I told him I had and that it is a bit trickier than being in a tree stand but it can be done and at close range. Any way I’m not looking to convert him just need a place to hunt but like Smithy said, how I behave will have an impact on whether he has a good impression of me or not. If we show we have manners then people with manners will notice. The rest, you can’t save them anyway.

Been thinking on doing the kayak thing too. I no longer have a canoe but I do have kayaks. I think cruising the lake shore could be productive and I know floating the river works as I have done that using a johnboat. Would love to do a 2-3 day over night trip with other bowhunters stopping at likely spots along the way. Basically making a one day float last 2-3 days. I’ve seen some awesome deer trails where they cross the river.
