in reply to: Fixing my bow grip #32584
Cody,
I just got a new Predator today and was surprised to find that the riser feels like it flexes slightly when I draw it. Does yours feel that way? I’ve not noticed that with any other recurve I have. If that is normal for a Predator it makes me wonder if you ought to consult the builder before changing anything. Might void your warranty too if it is less than 2 years old.
Duncanin reply to: Draw Lengths and Weights #32582cfiles,
If your fingers are not bunching up at full draw you are not suffering with string pinch.GTA is right that short bows sometimes cause this problem with folks who have long draw lengths. 28″ I think is a fairly average draw length. Should be OK with that bow length. If it shoots straight and is comfortable to shoot that is what counts.

in reply to: Draw Lengths and Weights #31219Cfiles,
Your new longbow that is 50# at 30″ should be 46.67# at 28″ mathematically speaking. The best way to know for sure is to check it on a hanging scale and use a marked shaft.
How do you know the recurve will be overdrawn? You mentioned your draw length is 28″ and since 28″ is usually the standard at which bow weight is recorded you should be OK. You might exerience a little string pinch at full draw with a 56″ bow but I would shoot it and have fun learning with it. If there is no string pinch at full draw it may be OK for you. Just may need a little tuning. There is plenty of tuning talk on this site! And welcome to the forum. I’ve been on since Sept 09 and so far it has been very pleasant.
Duncanin reply to: Walking with my Kustom King Black Forest #31203Hey George,
Beautiful bow and woods to walk in. Reminds me of some club land I used to hunt on. Had a creek about that size bordering it.
Duncanin reply to: Small Game #31081[quote=Jesse Minish]Bert, Yes you can tell the difference in the two. The Western is more of a gray with a salt n pepper color while the Eastern is gray with a hint of reddish brown in the coat.
Wow, and the ears on the Western gray are longer. That would be a good identifier for me and the lack of red hair. The fox squirrel looked like the ones I’ve seen in Illinois. Are the introduced species all legal? That California ground squirrel ought to be easy to identify too. Go get em Bert!

Won’t get me confused, I’m a lefty too!
Good video Chris!in reply to: Selfmade bow quivers? #31029Greatreearcher wrote:
Question, are you guys making your leather or buying it somewhere?I bought a bale of uphostery grade cowhide scraps a few years ago off of some website. I think they were in Kentucky. Had enough large scraps to make several back/side quivers and an endless supply of leather laces and small scraps. The bale cost less than one good quiver would cost. I have some deer raw hide that I have been saving from a deer I killed to back a bow with.
in reply to: Selfmade bow quivers? #31023Holten,
I don’t think there is really a wrong way. We just enjoy tinkering with ideas.
That screw on quiver is really cool! All wood frame?
The reason I was thinking about changing mine to velcro is I really like a quiver that I got from 3 rivers that holds 4 arrows and attaches with the best velcro system I have seen. I can put it on any bow I have and it is the quietest quiver.
My creation is from 1/8 rod and scraps of non-galvanized sheet metal. The “arms” are metal banding doubled up and fastened with pop rivets. I am a welder so brazing is a cinch. I used a combination of brazing and pop rivets for construction. There are strips of leather glued to the inside surface that attaches to the bow to protect the finish. I used a spare great northern rubber arrow holder. A mountain bike inner tube will supply you with endless rubber band material. Another thought would be cable ties. They are cheap and pleantiful and come in different sizes.
I really like your leather hood design. It looks like it is a little more roomy than mine. And the magnet, interesting!Duncan
in reply to: Small Game #30227[quote=Bert] Are the Eastern visually different enough from the Western to make a distinction at hunting distances?- or do they have an elitist, liberal lisp with an Obama sticker on their ass( excepting Massachusett recently)?!!
Bert
The squirrels hanging out around the bird feeder waiting for a handout are the libs. You’ll need to go out into the woods to find some conservatives working hard to make a living. They are harder to hit too. Not all sluggish from eating free bird food. 🙂

in reply to: Flemish strings #30131I’m interested in hearing about everyones method including not using a jig. Please elaborate!
in reply to: Flemish strings #30028Well, here are the things I use to make strings except I forgot the beeswax in the photo. I hope someone will show their jig. I’d like to make a better one than the one shown.
Hiram, I like the hook idea. I have been putting a short piece of dowel on my bench vise and hanging the first loop over that.
