Well, there are plenty of deer here but I think they have gone nocturnal from all of the hunting pressure. Last week was muzzle loader week and the week prior you just knew there were more people in the neighboring woodlots poking around, I can hear the 4 wheelers puttering around hauling in the corn on the weekends or dropping off bowhunters now that bowhunting is allowed on Sundays. The deer switched to night time due to all of this human intrusion. So I am reduced to plinking at squirrels and I might see a deer late in the evening.
I think my main problem with squirrels is that when I draw back I can already see the quarters all fried golden brown laying next to some mashed potatoes and a nice warm fluffy cathead biscuit, and then my shooting goes all to you know where…….

I just can’t resist. The rat hunting is so much better while there is still some foliage. But the leaves will soon be all gone and everything will be much more alert.
Hope you get that buck soon so you can relax and shoot some squirrels!
Paloeman,
“Catch and Release” was drawing on one and then not releasing and letting him go Like the fisherman Jimmy Houston used to do on TV. He would call in a turkey with an unlaoded gun and say “bang” at the appropriate time. Catch and release! Crazy Huh?

Steve, that dinosaur head has stopped a many a rubber blunt. Somehow I can hit the dino head but not a squirrel head?? I guess the dino has not learned to duck yet.

Thanks, I hope you guys find the buck. Well it rained so much over here I did not go. Sorry to hear of your injury. If you have a self bow maybe you could try shooting lefty!
Dubois,
The seat is based on a design that was in Field & Stream or Outdoor Life, can’t remember which but my Uncle showed it to me in the 70’s and we built some of them. If made carefully the 2 sections will nest for transport. I’ll put up some pics with measurements for those who might want to make one.
I leave them in my hunting spots laying them down so other hunters won’t easily see them.

That is a Samick Volcano 45# @ 28″, the arrows are hickory, some tipped with zwickeys and some with judos. Hit a rock with a judo yesterday and the sparks did fly.
The Shrew is shooting great. I’m shooting carbon arrows with 145 gr Bear Razorheads. Also have a rubber blunt over a blunt field tip for squirrels. So far missed 1 squirrel and have not really been deer hunting.
Can’t beleive I let Oct get away and did not go. Too much family drama these days I guess. It will eventually pass I guess and then I’ll have more time on my hands.
I’ve got some time today, it rained over night, the woods will be quiet and a front is moving in. Perfect time to go!

in reply to: I got the shakes! #31177Buck Fever is a strange thing. I have killed some very nice bucks and only had a mild case of shakes after the shot and sometimes none at all. But then I have had exactly what you described over does and spike bucks!! Becoming a quivering mass of uselessness. Go figure. And this is all coming from a guy that is somewhat excitable and anxiety prone even when not hunting.

in reply to: Walking Stick from Bow Scraps #27878Steve,
Thats a first class walking stick. I have a vine wrapped hickory with that same compass in it that I made several years ago.
