in reply to: Smithhammer revealed #63072
Key word being “elusive”, can we be sure this is really Smithhammer? Could be an imposter. 😀
in reply to: Bow backing #56363I have backed selfbows with cotton cloth and it turned out really nice. I had some Trebark camo cloth that was about the same weight as ordinary cotton khaki pants. Got an old pair of khakis? cut some strips from the legs and glue them on with wood glue. I used good old Elmers wood glue and have also used Titebond. I finish mine with polyurethane but I’m sure True Oil will work just fine.
in reply to: Clay Hayes new book! #56353It will be on my Kindle momentarily……:D The plain Kindle is the best deal in reading and the battery life is ridiculously long.
in reply to: A truly traditional man, RIP #56348Heard his songs sung around many a campfire. My Dad loved nothing more than to play whatever stringed instrument he had at the time and sing all those songs and the songs of others late into the night.
RIP Pete
in reply to: Eye candy for those of you snowed in… #55237Nice shed!!!
in reply to: Home practice range #53940OK here’s mine such as it is……
The backyard target
I like to shoot this one between the 2 trees there. Sometimes I hit the little one to the right
Sometimes I sit and shoot and sometimes I just sit….
The doe target has seen better days but still works
Side yard target shot from the front steps
Standing by the side yard target looking to the doe target
in reply to: brush button? #53570I don’t use them generally but I do have 2 take downs that seem to like them and are quieter with them. I actually have a really old pair that were on my first bow, a Bear Alaskan. Just kept them for fun in my tackle box.
Around here its the tall grass and weeds that will get hung but I cannot say that brush buttons will prevent this totally. It was always something you had to pay attention to before taking a shot. I would always just check my limb tips after I reached my stand to make sure they were clear.
in reply to: installing fur silencers (quick & easy) #53563Some bows just deserve fur silencers. My selfbows all wear them. Enjoy your vids Clay.
in reply to: Happy BD Dr. Ed! #52665Guess I missed this post. Happy Birthday anyway Doctor Ed.
in reply to: Anything Positive @ This Winter? #52661And I thought it was cold here this morning. At least it is not snowing. NCBA held its Bow Hunt for Rabbits today but I once again did not go. Maybe Steve Graf went and will post some pics for us wood stove huggers.
I’ve been busy building some new cedar arrows and feeding the wood stove today.
in reply to: Anything Positive @ This Winter? #51978Squirrel goes out the end of the month but rabbit and quail are in til end of Feb. Smithy’s pics made me think wistfully of days following my English Setter after Gentleman Bob, her stylish tail waving like a big white feather up ahead. The Chukar may live among the rocky crags but Bob will draw you right into the nearest catbrier hell. Briar britches and shirt sleeves are a must have. Makes for some sporty shooting though.
Beautiful dog and country there, Smithy.
in reply to: Home practice range #50742Archer38,
Some of your targets look hand made/hand painted. Is that your work? Looks very nice.

in reply to: Well said! #50737Did not have the sound turned up but you still get the idea. Wife might have thought it was me. 😳
in reply to: A selfbow for Molly #49747Good job on the bow. And good idea to make your wife a bow. I should try that to get my wife to try shooting again.
