in reply to: Dating Martin Howatt Bows? #12028
Well let me slim it down. as far as bows pre 1990’s I will say the serial number is not reliable. 2006 for a savanna seems about right. As for catalog ID’s I am again speaking of 20th century collectable vintage bows not newer models. I apologize if i confused ya

in reply to: Dating Martin Howatt Bows? #10934Hi,
Your best bet is buying up as many catalogs as you can. I am a rabid Howatt collector and the serial number theory is out the window..
You could call martin and s/w Larry Hatfield but I have found him incorrect on some Id’s.. but I ain’t telling him that.Rich lopez ?

in reply to: Who is your bowhunting hero and why? #47315Gene & Barry Wensel! Why? Because they are the real deal when it comes to hunting, and because when I was 18 years old they did a seminar at a local college in my homestate of NJ. I wanted to attend, and my girlfriend at the time (a super beautiful Italian gal that took me months to go out with)threatened to break up with me if i did. I was single in a NY minute a after attending the seminar.:D
They took to time to talk to me and answer my questions, they treated me like a normal human being ..not like the typical celeb.pukes you meet at events nowadays…snotty and full of themselves.
To this day they still treat me like a regular Joe and i never forgot that from that day in 1978. I want to saythey had a small role in the development of my character as young adult. I make sure I treat everyone i meet withthe same friendly demeanor and rspect.
Thanks guys,
Richin reply to: Shipping a collectable #58892On the flip side…Got this from a guy off E–y. It was a 1963 Jennings recurve bow… rare and very collectable. He advised in an email he was trying something different cause he had a hard time finding bow boxes. Last I heard,, imagination and brains was something we all have?
Can you say baseboard heating boxes, flourecent tube boxes, dumpster boxes, making one out of 3.. I think you get the picture.. Luckily the bow was ok. Came all the way from California. Phew!

in reply to: Feeling like a Dinosaur…… #58883Duncan, I feel your pain. After looking through a Cabela’s catalog, I have a headache and sticker shock.
I am humbled when i go back through my old Kitterege, Anderson Archery, and Robin Hood catalogs. The fun is seeking out that old gear on the sites.
in reply to: Collecting into the 21st century #51241Right on. It is an enjoyable “illness”
in reply to: Any other Bear Archery enthusiasts here? #38168Dennis I got your email and pics. it is a type 2 B riser. The serial number started with a 2 B2***).
Since the original serial is gone from the side of the riser it is a crap shoot at best..it is a 1971-72 vintage. Nice riser for sure.in reply to: Any other Bear Archery enthusiasts here? #33471In where the limbs go there should be a stamped number in the center “rail” of the socket.. also email me some pics of you can.. droptine59@hotmail.com
