in reply to: Black Widow broke today #44243
Great – I think staying with one bow for that hunt is best [ it is for me]I did not realize how quiet the ” Ocala ” was until I owned other bows {It is not called the “wonderbow” for nothing– haha]. Good Luck ! I hope you have a great Hunt.
Scoutin reply to: 2 blade broadhead orientation #44239Ah -Yes, BH initial orientation at launch, definitely could have some effect. Has anyone done any tests out of a Bow Machine Rest [ I believe they exist?] and ultra slow mo photography. It would be interesting to see how different style arrows performed. Of course that would take away some of the ART!? Maybe best to just wonder, and shoot the way one likes –haha
Scout.in reply to: Ground Blinds for Idiots… #43797I totally concur with MCuiska and Straight Aero, especially on eye contact, do not do it. I have proved that to may own satisfaction, and others. When they are close, just concentrate on the spot you want to hit { and shoot from a rear qtr angle if at all possible} – as I always keep telling myself -haha.

I am afraid I have not worried about the BH orientation that much myself thru the years, it did not seem to matter to my personal shooting. However I may not be as accurate as others, that is why I was interested in other trad bow archers opinions. “Vertical to get thru ribs” was an old “argument” – “speculation ” I remember hearing. I never gave it much creedance. I also remember fubars remark about using the BH [Vertical] to index upon ones finger — “Draw check” so to speak. I always personally stress alignment on my own arrows.

My interest is in what happens with –“the flight of the arrow”{Physics} and my impression from reading your posts is, you have studied it. If you use helical fletch, the arrow should spiral in flight?
I see the head subconsciously no matter its orientation [ old training]
I was first told, 1969 — vertical to get thru ribs — straight fletch? [ thus no spiral ?]-I did not flech my own arrows[then] and do not recall the standard.
If it spins[helical] and apparently it does- . How does that impact this thread?
respectfully submitted
Scoutin reply to: Black Widow broke today #43543Are you going to hunt with the “Ocala”? My Impression from your post. You do not hear much about them now – but they were/are a very accurate, easy to shoot bow! Quiet for a recurve–
PS – I also own Bear “Magnums” and love them for their special purpose.
Scoutin reply to: this new format??? #43529Ditto, MCuiska– I experienced the same-
Scoutin reply to: this new format??? #42589I think Patience is the best course — my guess is they are revamping / adjusting the site –

If he is a Texian he ought to take your arrows and chase some pigs imho! Avg sows for supper or a big boar for checking penetration. I imagine all ya all are familiar with that however, haha. I Love to hunt feral hogs, try to do it at least a couple times a year [TX]

Scoutin reply to: Has anyone used Zwicky Broadheads #41933Along with their other, many attributes delineated here. Just about any store that sells Broadheads [ even if a Modern Archery type] usually has Zwickys. Can resupply almost anywhere.

Roger all your last —
I just mounted up tuffhead/BH and arty shells/FPs on Gold tips and axis shafts and shot them out of 2 of my Lbows. shot the same, very nice heads. I hope to field test mine in the near future. Good luck to you and TDowning on your Elk hunts – I hope you get “in amongst em”
Scout.in reply to: Scentless waterproof spray? #41079Dave–
I only mentioned the Paris remark, because an old friend [ avowed cognac connoissuer ] said it could only be used in specialized and proper applications. one of which was my comment. I can verify it is very apropos in that scenario -haha. Roger the Margarita/beer time of year. I always prefer fine bourbon for the backpack application.
I too am preparing for the fall – is the orange stuff a liquid, gel, paste?
Scout.in reply to: Tuffhead update #41067Just received the tuffhead brass field points and steel adapters – Yeehaa – look like artillery shells on my carbons, haha. Very nicely executed! work great! big/sharp pointed enuff to be a good small game head, lol.
