in reply to: Newest problem while tuning #40549
Troy
To quote an old friend of mine — ” they are all the same , but a little different”
It has been a long time since I shot a hill bow —
I had a couple of schultz bows [ which i preferred]I left the trad longbow and have gone to the RD variant, which as I get older I find more pleasant and easier to shoot [Centaur&shrews]
some bows are easy {to tune}- most are a little more involved — and the rest are real tricky — at least for me –
I am afraid – I am like DR Ashby — my release is my nemesis
when on, it is great – A continous endeavor
thanks for your help
PS — tillering is beyond my ken — at least for now – interesting to see how you solved the problem.
Scoutin reply to: Newest problem while tuning #40471Troy – Thanks for all your tuning posts!
Tradbow – but especially tuning is always an adventure — at least for me as I shoot a lot of diff – weight bows. Nice to know; even the senior guys have to sort one out, now and again – I of course have to do this all the time!!haha — probably payment for past “indiscretions” —
Please keep it up! Always Educational for me ————

Bonne Chance ! run it out to the end —
11th hour success is always the most remembered—and deserved.

Well Done ! Nice Bull — As you say, I have not seen [ or heard of] a 4×6 configuration particularly with even main beam length; makes for a more interesting experience.
Ambuscade at the spring ?
Good Luck to Alex ! and to all other Members ———
Scoutin reply to: Motivation #28561I hunt {with a bow} because I have to — I have been this way from childhood. None of my family are hunters, but I was born this way. I have never needed a reason why [ or thought much about it for myself ]- I just do it- I love to be free on the Land in pursuit, I enjoy the Chase. Success is always nice and required on occassion, but the chase is paramount.

Amen Brother, Well said ————
Scoutin reply to: Shooting Form Question #28466PS —
The Reason I do Not like the Push/pull release for longer Ranges and especially static tgts: is I find [ for me personally] a tendancy to not lock my bow arm — ie push past to the left [ I am right handed] if I am tracking something – no problem, I push to{follow} it. At the shorter ranges I do not seem to have this problem — most likely it doesn’t really show up on tgt.
Scoutin reply to: Shooting Form Question #28328SteveMcD –
Thats interesting [ helps me evaluate my own technique]–
On pull thru I end up like you Steve– drawing hand by my shoulder. However when I “Dead Release” my hand stays right by the corner of my mouth [ I just relax the fingers ]. When I am consistant with this release, I get my best accuracy.
Scoutin reply to: First Tree Shark Experience #28253Sounds like it did an impressive job —
They do look like they would leave a very wide cut, and obviously did.
I haven’t tried tree sharks — have some Centaur “Big Game heads” [ smiliar in design – but longer]need to try them out, on deer . Shot a Javelina with them, which worked as you describe.
Congrats on a nice successful hunt!
Scoutin reply to: Early season doe #28117Well Done [– what bow ? arrows? BHs? –Pass thru?]
Looked like A nice classic bowhunt
Scoutin reply to: Shooting Form Question #27503Mr Hayes-
The Pull thru works well — it takes a lot of “time on target”
But imho falls apart quickly at the longer Ranges – unless you shoot —A LOT —
But the Beauty of the Bow — is you can shoot it in your Back Yard! Perseverance and Patience and never ending practice is the discipline of the Trad Bow — and The reason we have been bewitched and entranced by it ! —
Scoutin reply to: The anser to all our problems! #27488I am continually amazed at the Hype propagated by the outdoor Media — I guess a lot of Americans are not very bright. It is sad to me that few, want to embrace the “Arts of the Woods”*. It does not have to be there main thrust in life- but they do live on this planet – and as part of there being– they should trully appreciate the actual natural world! or at least have an exposure to it —-
* even without the hunting —
Scoutin reply to: How to ruin a hot spot #27434Here in the Southwest {AZ/NM} I see more and more tree stands and Cameras chained to trees in the Public lands. Each region seems to have a different attitude [ enforcement of regs]towards it. I have RARELY seen a uniformed member of the Forest Service off the main roads [ I spend a lot of time in the field]
However, every “Tank” / water hole / developed spring* that is known on GPS [ other than wilderness – maybe]has at least 2 and sometimes 3 brushblinds that have been there for many years. You can always tell which ones are in current use by fresh cut saplings etc [ technically illegal] This is usually heaviest wherever the Outfitted Elk Hunting is going on. The Competition here among the Guides is HEAVY — there have been fights over the waterholes!
* 10 yrs ago I would have said “accessible by a major forest road” — now the ATVs have gone almost everywhere they physically can [ enforcement!?!] these A——s drive there machines around the edge to check for sign!!!
I realize that the monies for the Feds to keep the vigil is drying up — I guess we best step in–
ScoutPS – there are still places – in odd out of the way spots- if you “Hump your Ruck” deep enuff, you can get away from these “People” — although it is becoming much more difficult
in reply to: Shooting Form Question #27403Steve McD
Up close [ under 15yds] or Moving Tgts I pull thru —
15 + to 25yds [ My Max Range hunting – but practice further ]
I hold then release.
I tend to be more accurate/precise hits with hold { dead}/release–
I am afraid I have become an amalgam of techniques I have picked up over the years! Purity of form is not my strong suit– but I continue to work on it —
